So this thread is to share the gross and weird food we find. Such as the infamous meat-pineapple and pretty much anything involving aspic, especially stuff from 50's to 90's.

*Looks at lair* Ah yes. Organised chaos.
^^that pineapple frightens me every time, at first glance it looks like glazed ceramic or something with all that bright yellow and the glossy sheen.
I have access to both a still functioning microwave from the 70s and the cookbook it came with, tonight I'll grab some scans and heck, maybe this weekend I'll even attempt one of the recipes and report back.
e: Also the other day I read reading some interesting stuff on WHY aspics etc. were so popular back then, I'll try and dig up links when I'm not stuck at work furtively phone posting at 4am

Banana nut salad: A single peeled (or one-third peeled as depicted) banana, resting on a bed of lettuce. The (mandatory) dressing consists entirely of plan mayonnaise and crushed walnuts or peanuts.

Oh boy, Cracked.com has a whole list of these. I've been set on a quest but I won't spam the thread. Here's a couple of my favorites.

I think that's a gelatinized tuna fish sandwich.

Of course, the only truly perfect salad is set into gelatin, y'all weren't kidding about aspics..

And don't even get me started on Kool Aid pickles, which sprouted up around the time of the great depression (kool aid and pickles being extremely cheap and people being desperate for some semblance of variety) and are still being eaten unironically today.

That mayo salad makes my stomach turn holy crap that would be so gross. That said the rest of what's here kinda looks at least sorta edible. I'd be willing to try some of it.

Oh. That is certainly...that, uh...that sure is a thing that someone made and took a photograph of, all right. But I don't believe at all that anyone's ever eaten it.
