Actually G. atlanticus have a bunch of common names! Sea Swallows, Blue Dragons, Blue Angels and a few variations on those! ^^
Something even more amazing than their stunning appearance is their diet! Did you know that Sea Swallows eat, among other things, the Portugese Man O' War?
They, like a lot of other sea slugs, can take the stinging cells from the Man O' War and use the stings themselves for defence. ^^ So if you see one, don't try and handle it - it might have been eating a very dangerous breakfast!
Sorry I am a marine mollusc nerd.
OKAY BUT
VAMPIRE SQUID
Vampyroteuthis infernalis, the literal translation of its binomial name is 'Vampire Squid from Hell'. Beautiful. They're not actually squid though! They're the only (known) extant species in their order, and share traits with both squid and the octopus.
These little guys are up to 30cm tip-to-tip, and have the largest eyes in comparison to its body of any animal. If that's not cute I don't know what is. It has eight arms joined by webbing and lined with what look like spines - but these are actually just fleshy extrusions that they have in order to bluff, called cirri.
They are also the only known cephalopod that doesn't hunt live prey! Instead they feed on marine snow - all the bits that float down the water column. And they're the ones saddled with such an ominous name, haha!
They have a bunch of bioluminescence as well - in fact their 'ink' is a cloud of glowing mucus!
There're also a bunch of other neat animals I see no one's posted about yet:
The Indian Rhinoceros, aka the Unicorn. That's right, folks, unicorns are real. These guys started the myths.
The Wolf Eel! It's not actually an eel, just a long fish. They will seek out divers and ask for pets, which is adorable.
Aaaand that's probably enough from me for now, hahaha ^^
