I haven't always been a fan of Underbelly and Glimmer - I've just always found them a little "boring" and sometimes cover up nice underbelly patterns from certain primaries. they still wouldn't be my first choice when scrying but I have some dragons that wear them very well, so I don't dislike them.
alternatively when I started I thought Flaunt/Flair looked awesome, but I swear I see it everywhere now, and I'm no longer as keen on it. again I do have some dragons who look great with that pair, it just doesn't interest me so much anymore, and it can look garish in some colours tbh.
I used to like Clown, now I cannot deal with it anymore.
To my defense tho, the time when I liked it was when we only had like 5 primary genes...
I was also definitely part of the "why do we have this"-group towards Stained, now it's my absolute go to tertiary. Love it.

i used to buy almost every starmap/constellation dragons i saw when i was newer player and now i don't like them that much, i still think constellation looks good when paired with a different primary but i just don't like starmap since i think it looks busy. almost every starmap/constellation dragon i have owned has been exalted when i did a lair purge for my new aesthetic
i was also really obsessed with iridescent/shimmer, all of my projects used to have it. i now find iridescent/shimmer to be quite boring looking for a gem gene and i never scry with it anymore. i also think i don't use these genes that much anymore because i've become a g1 collector and i don't wanna spend so many gems :P
i used to not like flaunt/flair because i found it busy and hard to work with most tertiaries but it started to grow on me and i found that it's not that hard to make work, it has a lot of beautiful accents with colors that can turn a "meh" looking dragon into a stunning beauty. i also wasn't a fan of the belly tertiaries (underbelly, capsule, glimmer) until i started scrying with them and i completely fell in love with them when i saw how nice they can look when paired with other simple genes

With this fests expansion of Crystalline to Aethers and Luxes, it looks so much better on these non-static poses. It no longer looks like they're frozen in place but rather combating the freezing cold their own way, and the crystal shapes make the gene way more usable than the ones on Gaolers and Boas.
I didn't see any thread discussing it yet so I figure it's ok here. Crystalline was pretty divisive on release, odd color pallet and odd static look turned people off of it. I personally tried to use it but found it difficult on the breeds it was available on at the time. I would actually consider using it more on the new breeds. Really, go check it out! Curious what others think.

Exactly what I came here to post lol, I like Crystalline much better on Everluxes and Aethers. I never liked how it looked on poses that were standing on the ground

At first I wasn't the biggest fan of the Veil gene on Dusthides, but since acquiring Dushides with Veil it has grown on me a lot
And surprisingly, as much as I absolutely adored Filigree in my early account days, it kinda fell off for me after I did more series with it and the coliur combos just didn't look great. o7 to Filigree being on my favourite gene list

I used to adore Stained and Soap, and while I still like them I never scry with them because it feels like a cop-out. (Bad terts are a challenge I will not back down from!)
On the other hand, I used to hate Iri/Shim for looking exactly like Basic but now I like them a lot! They can save a lot of bad combos, and they're great for busy skins/terts/outfits. I especially love Fae Shimmer for how rainbow-y it is!

I used to give give two shakes about Tapir or Pinstripe, now guess which ones I'm a big fan of [emoji=special eyes size=1]
I used to be big on Metal/Alloy but now they're a bit too harsh in a lot of colors cases (for instance radioactive e) and it winds up looking a bit dark. ;P

+ Pinging OK, Chill, I play to enjoy cute, funny Dergs and admire other's creativity.
I used to like Bee a lot more when I first joined then now.
I've grown to really like Ground / Fissure over time. The genes are still pretty situational, but I think it looks great on themed dragons, or when only a little texture is needed.
