TOPIC | Value of chests vs skins?
Fest chest collectors: do you think that intact chests have significantly more value than skins from open ones? I'm trying to sell some old festival chests, but I can't figure out proper pricing.

As an example, the current LAH price for the Mutant skin (2014 Riot of Rot) is a humble 38g, but the price for the chest version is at least 1000g...

I can't tell whether it's better to go off LAH for the skin, or for the chest?

Apologies for bringing this one back up, I'm trying to price some old skins again and cannot decide on what to do! I appreciate there might not be heavy demand for old skins and there might not be a clear answer but I would like to hear thoughts

I believe chests are considered more collectable/expensive for the same reason 'mint in box' toys are. Plus, after the introduction of Joxboxes, skins aren't totally retired, but chests are hard-retired and extremely unlikely to show up at Roundsey.

So chests are more expensive and you're better off pricing based on LAH for chests, as I understand it.

Now, do I personally know any players who collect chests? ...No, but I'm a hermit. It's a niche market, though. Expect slow movement.

As a skin buyer, I always just search the skin. I don't think about searching the chest, and would only buy the chest if it were cheaper since the whole point is to use the skin on a dragon.

However, chest collectors do exist! If the LAH for the chest is higher, there's no harm in trying to sell the chest at LAH. If it doesn't sell for a few weeks/months and you get impatient or need the money, you could always open it up for a faster sale.

I just open all of mine - even if I'd be of the mind to sell my excess skins, I'd rather they be a bit cheaper, but move faster, than getting a higher value but needing to wait so much longer for it to move. I don't even check the price of the chests when buying old site skins tbh, so it must take ages for those to sell if my behavior is at all typical.

I think the chests are nice in raffles :3

Chests are going to be more valuable as they're a depleting resource, but the buyer market is MUCH lower than for straight skins. So expect to be trying to sell them for a while if you do.

I just checked the AH prices of a bunch of chests I've got from early 2014 and they average 100g-700g. They're also hard to sell.

Some people avidly collect the chests, but tbh I just open any chests I get and sell extra copies of the skins for a bit lower than the Festive Favors price on the last day of each festival.

Thank you all for the input! Think I will try selling chests at LAH chest prices for now since there's no rush, it's not like dragons where I have limited lair space and I can hold on to them and see if they sell!
