Hey there all! :D
I'm new to Flight Rising and ever since I've been wondering, what makes a breeding game like Flight Rising so interesting? Take myself for example i like hoarding stuff and collecting pretty dragons even if I'll never use the stuff i hoarded, it's unexplainably fun.
But how about you guys, why do you play Flight Rising or any other breeding game such as Lioden, Xanje, Wolvden etc. Which other breeding games, if you play them at all? Do you like and why, the colors, the UI, the species, the items, the familiars, the coliseum, fairgrounds.
I find it so fascinating that there are so many different kinds of gamers out there and there are even tests to determine which one you are, but this genre is small but so lovely and I want to know why

first of all, welcome to FR!!
for me, its simply fun to dress the lizards up n give em stories! i love cohesive lairs and despite my ever-changing aesthetic interests, its always been a goal of mine to have a lair that i consider 'finished', though that'll probably never happen XD
since this game is so extensive in its customization options, even though i dont really partake in the breeding aspect of the game, i'm always finding stuff to do! i've been here since 2016 and i'm always changing stuff up in my lair - just did a big revamp recently which has gotten me back into playing a tad more regularly.
also, FR is one of the only petsite-esque games i've been on with such an involved community - dom alone is fascinating and its so cool how player-led initiatives make up such a big part of the site. the people here are cool :]

I love to play Coli, actually. I really enjoy playing it while watching or listening to something. I like when it's dropping eggs or other nice stuff. It's just so simple that you don't need to think about it. Pure mindless motorics and distraction from outer world.
And I'm happy to look at my cute dragons and having that feel of achievement. I managed to have them and made them cute. I can have my little imaginary medal!

Interestingly, FR is a breeding game that can be played without ever engaging in any sort of breeding mechanic! I myself engage in it primarily just for the money that can be gained from exalting the offspring I breed.
I came here for the pretty dragons and stayed because I enjoyed Coli; I like turn-based RPGs, and FR offered a chance for me to choose my own fighter characters, as it were. Without any sort of death mechanic, FR is a rich environment for a number of playstyles, including fighting-based, creative-based, dress-up-based, breeding-based… and any variety of any combination of those, plus more.
I played in a number of adoptables sites over a number of years, some of which included breeding and some of which didn't, but FR is the one that grabbed and held me precisely because of that playstyle flexibility that meant I could play even if my interests changed or if I had less time to spend online playing games.

Depends on the game!
For instance, I play Wolvden, which is a very stat-focused survival game. Stats are important because they affect your hunting success, and if your wolves are not fed, they will leave. Also wolves have a life span of around six irl months. So there is always pack turnover of your best hunters passing away, but also the excitement of raising their children to hopefully reach even better stats. There are also stat leaderboards. So I'm very much in it for the competitive and numbers-going-up aspect, and just the emotional attachment of seeing each generation climb through the ranks like their parents before them.
FR has none of that which took me a while to adjust to, but I like it in a whole different way: it's an aesthetic sandbox with incredible customization options. Part of my Wolvden playstyle does carry over, in that I like keeping hatchlings and having big family trees although it is not necessary in gameplay (since no one dies).

I don't. I actually don't like breeding games, which is why I enjoy FR, because I don't feel like I have to engage with those systems if I don't want to! :D
It's a totally optional thing in FR which is great for players like me.
I have a project going on right now coincidentally, but it's so rare that I ever do breeding projects because again, I don't really like breeding systems in most pet games.
I really wish new sims would shift away from breeding sim and more towards a traditional pet game but I don't see that happening any time soon unfortunately.

I'll make a nice signature eventually :(
I play Lioden and Chickensmoothie (not really a breeding game) for a very long time! Lioden I loved collecting the prettiest lions and mutations and trying to get every mutation! It took YEARS, and I NEVER got a mutation LOOL. It was stressful, but I did enjoy it! Also like Flight Rising, I love the adventuring in Lioden / similar to the coliseum. I find it fun!
Chickensmoothie I just loved how many animals there were and collecting them. There were so many options, I just had a bunch of hoards.
What I like about FR too is it is optional breeding which I see a lot of people don't then some people do!
I do plan on hoarding some items just for fun, like dragons do, I did start to hoard

just because they are cute! I have many more items to discover though. :3

The ability to go: If I smash guy and that guy together, what comes out?
I've played a couple others here and there; lorwolf, felisfire, gryffs... and those pokemon games but I've really only stuck with here (and lorwolf due to similarity). I don't like games that use a hex based system for colors, ALL your offspring end up muddy and grey rather than a *color* and that's not fun. The gene system we have here is relatively simple too, there's others I've seen where you need a flowchart spreadsheet just to figure out the odds of inheritance for a gene the great great grandparents had that might suddenly show up.
One of my favorite videogames growing up was Monster Rancher 2, and that pretty much was I can take this rabbit monster and this wolf monster and fuse them. I could get a rabbit monster that looks like the wolf, a wolf that looks like the rabbit, the base rabbit or wolf monsters themselves or something else entirely if I throw in an item. THAT was fun! That's what I like.
