So I am ten hours ahead of server time, which means I can't visit FR in in the morning because it's midnight on the site and it's always down for maintenance, but if I forget and do it anyway, it logs me out, despite the Remember Me option being ticked. Does anyone know if and why it's necessary for that to happen? It seems arbitrary and like something that should change, but I really don't love the vibe in the suggestions category so I thought I'd ask here first in case there's anything relevant I'm missing.
I genuinely can't imagine why this result would be unavoidable. I went onto Tumblr this morning while it was down and it didn't log me out, it just took me to a different page where I didn't have access to the site until they fixed it. I know they're not the same type of thing, but still. Would love to know if anyone has insight into this.

I think there is a specific reason why this happens but I unfortunately can't remember what it was to help you out. It is extremely obnoxious, though.

I'll make a nice signature eventually :(
It's because it's not an entire curtains down maintenance. There are times where they shut down the site so we can't see anything but those are rare. (Which is what it sounds like you're referring to in your twitter comment)
The way it's set up now, we can still browse forums and things while the site is 'closed' but can't do many things while it's being worked on. Between a full curtains down maintenance every night vs the door shut one we have now, I highly prefer the way it is. Sure it can be annoying if you accidentally log yourself out but for the most part you can still navigate and view the site.

It depends what you're trying to do. The www pages will generally log you out immediately, though there's not many left of those. If you try and use something that pulls information that isn't public to other users (e.g. notifications) that may also do it. It might be possible to change that, but it would take specific handling to do that rather than the unauthorised access => logout to be safe that we have now. It's unlikely to be a priority since a handful of users needing to log in sometimes isn't a critical problem.
but yeah, as vihuff said - FR daily maint is a very different situation to tumblr full shutdown (equivalent to curtains down on FR). Curtains down also does not log you out.

I see. I feel like it's not generally very clear what pages I can and can't go to when that happens. A brief guide somewhere very obvious would be useful.

The one thing I know is that looking at lairs and dragons tends to log you out during maintenance, at least last I checked. Checking notifications seems to do it too. I usually just stick to the (non-Flight specific) forums when FR goes under maintenance, as I've never had any issue browsing them during maintenance.
