To add to this, consider a mechanic to implement right before the new ancient rolls around:
Sometimes when you get an egg and try to hatch it, it'll fail and you'll get an eggshell item instead. :)
It's about a 50/50 chance to get a hatchling instead of an eggshell, too. :>
This applies to every egg type in the game, including eggs Galore gives you for new breeds. c:
