TOPIC | Zombie Dragons
Yknow, whenever Plague comes up I see this topic brought up quite a bit, but with the contest open for RoR it seems like. Opinion is Really divided on the topic.

The topic being whether zombie dragons belong in Plague, or are even appropriate for Plague when keeping the themes in mind.

On the forums, pretty much.... everyone says no. Apparently Plaguemom hates them. Makes sense to me- they're dead, they failed to survive.
But the contest shows it's apparently a popular enough theme that staff acknowledge it in the guidelines. So really something doesn't add up. Are you guys just trying to lower our guard about the undead being your fault or something? (I mean you'd not be wrong; I associate the undead with Earth and Light personally.)

It's just odd to me.

We're going to guess that it's something to do with it being a festival at the end of October and people who don't know a lot about the lore just assume it's Halloween and go with zombies :D

zombies, if anything, are light's fault.

Who can take tomorrow, dip it in a dream, separate the sorrow and collect up all the cream?

The candyman can 'cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good.

The official site stance is no to undead: plaguebringer hates them and they're not part of the plague theme.

That being said, modern takes on zombies are... inconsistent on their status as actual undead. While zombies have their origin as magically reanimated corpses, a lot of modern zombie fiction treats zombieism as a disease, and one that's often implied to be purely biological/scientific in nature. Parts of the body rot, but if no magic is involved, then their organs must still work well enough to let them move around. So even if they're brain-dead, the virus in them is still meaningfully alive.

So basically: magic zombies aren't part of plague, disease zombies easily could be.

As a member of Plague flight, I get why people say zombies aren't fitting for Plague...but personally I don't care because zombie dragons are cool dammit. My headcanon is that dragons in Plague flight have different opinions on whether undeath counts as survival or not.

Yeah, this is one where staff don't even follow their lore - I'm pretty sure they've actively recommended green blood and zombies before for RoR because there's this thing about no skins that look like they've got blood in them for the festival. Plenty of them come out not via festivals so might be something to do with 'we allow users this freedom but don't want to have them as official site-provided skins'.

Canonically light has the zombies and ghosts, earth has the skeletal/lich undead, and plague just has a massive desert full of completely un-alive skeletons.

Ya know, good point on the whole "they're not dead". Maybe continuing to live, against all odds, past feeling.. like, you should be dead and we have no idea why this dragon is still going is pretty metal, and very plague.
