I've been working on a Steel/Steel/Rust dragon for the better part of a year. My pair producing said dragon are both Steel/Steel/X, with the male being a nice, close Maroon and the female being freaking Lemon.

They've danced all around Rust, getting some near-misses in the process, but never actual Rust. They've even given me a Primal. No Rust. All I want is Rust.

Ha ha ha yeah, that was my chocolate/chocolate/caramel girl. I mean it's caramel flavored chocolate. Nope. There were some that weren't exalted, but none I could use, either because I wanted gem genes, because inactive, or because the owners weren't willing to sell or lend them for the project. At some point, I had over 20 dragons just dedicated to getting me to this one and it still almost took me a year. I had so many one-off misses for the tert it was insane.

I have a project where I have 9 breeding pairs breeding for a dragon for over a year and the first dragon hatched was the right colors. Why am I still breeding for it today?

It was the wrong gender.

To this day haven’t gotten the dragon in the correct color and gender.

I'm currently working on getting a flint/forest/oilslick. And due to my need for everything to be perfect, his mate (who is my own OC) has to be younger than him, so even though I have a pair to breed her, I can't until I have him.

I must like to torture myself because I have, not one, not two, but [b]NINE [/b]active breeding projects for specific color combos. I have two lair tabs dedicated to this mess. And I like making pairs, so for each one I've got at least four dragons breeding at a time, if not more. And I still have [i]more[/i] ideas sitting on the back-burner because—hahaha, what? No, I'm not insane. Also, I don't have the room in my lair for all that. And there are [b]never enough nests![/b] I just love my odd combo dragons that no one else has ever thought to breed, apparently. Granted, some of them exist, they're just not plentiful enough that folks actively breed and sell them on occasion. Most of them were just random chance from an odd couple. I guess that's good news for me when it comes to my eventual hatchery pairs, because I tell ya what, no one's going to breed their own for the [b]nightmare [/b]that I've had to go through just to get this far! My gardening project is the worst. Basically, I want TWELVE of these suckers to start a hatchery with a decent collection of the different ranges of colors and combos. Finding dragons that aren't related to mine is a chore, because the color ranges on their own are nearly moot, not to mention I need SO. MANY. The up side to this is that it doesn't matter if my own dragons are related so long as they aren't a breeding couple(obviously). Which means that some of the ranges are so close that I can use kids from the, say, ice-wing pair to try and create the rose-wing baby that I want. I've been a little successful. Once I finish these, I'll probably jump onto the next project so I can have all my lovely dergies one day. [emoji=familiar heart size=1] But hunting for unrelated dragons to add to my pairs to narrow down the color-ranges always gives me a headache. Hopefully it'll all be worthwhile in the end. I love all my scries so much. I can't wait till they become a reality. T-T

Ohhh being an imp will make it much harder! I feel your pain though. The longest breeding project I've had so far was one that took 445 days, so a year and a few months. Like your situation, there was only 1 dragon with the right colors and it had been exalted. So painful.

It all started when I wanted to move my hoarding/questing list off of Google Sheets and into a dragon bio, but with a twist. I planned his lore so that he was a self-absorbed, arrogant, and snooty little hoarder. I carefully selected his colors based on the Transmuted Treasure familiar, and I made his name a play on words as well. Anyways, after all the planning and breeding...by the time I finally hatched him I had completed so many other projects and was broke... then went on a mini hiatus... so I haven't even gened him yet ;_;...

But! You will feel amazing once you finally finish your project! I hope you can find close color combos to breed, and I'm wishing you many 5-egg nests!

Probably. The trick was, that I wanted him to be the descendant of my PROGEN. Who is a denim/jade/tangerine and my random was orange/purple something before her scatters. Second place for hardest breeding project is this [u]unrelated[/u] Fern/Fern/Honey and Mantis/Mantis/Honey imp pair. Breeding projects can be hard, but sooo worth the satisfaction when the perfect one hatches!
