reotheleo i admit to having gotten quite lucky with my random progen and my custom's tertiary.
i chose caribbean/aqua, and she received charcoal for her tert, and my random popped up with violet/aqua/pink. i admit to aggressively hating the violet due to its accent color, but was pleasantly surprised by its pink hued crystal. that settled his primary gene, as that caused his pink tertiary to match.
grey is an easy color to use, so i had no troubles with colette, besides the whole "there aren't enough genes i like" thing. but that has long been solved and she's all lovely and finished.
i've kept one child of theirs, hatched on my birthday, and found her a mate from another member's progens. several of
their children now live with losi's parents, which is lovely!
also i'm reminded that i need to tell them that i've completely restarted my lore... RIP.
ANYWAY! moren and colette are and have always been in the first two slots of my lair, where they started. never exalted, always dressed (once i had clothes for them hehe). they have my most cherished familiars, and in every version of my lore they have been the leaders.
i love them very much, and i'm grateful to the kind members of wind flight who made a thread offering scrying of newbies' progens along with a little bit of information on how these dragons are special, and why we should at least look at avenues for keeping them before we make up our minds and exalt. of course, this was when we could never get our progens back, and i believe several of the people in that thread regretted exalting their progens, so they were quick to assist newbies with being certain they wanted to exalt their own progens.
since now you can retrieve your progens at nearly any time, i think that the feeling of "wait! first try ___ before you exalt!" has gone away. it doesn't particularly matter now, does it? if anyone changes their mind, their progens are right there!
i am still of the mind of "scry them with every breed besides imperials, and every gene that you like (or all of them!) before you choose. and remember you can always use a scatterscroll." but i don't really feel a bit sad when someone chooses to exalt them, because there's no more regret over it to be had. no one says anymore "i wish i hadn't exalted my progens, and now i can't undo it" because they can! it's honestly a regret-free choice all around.
