Grammatical gender is a system of noun classification. A common gender classification includes masculine and feminine categories. Masculine nouns are words for men, boys and male animals. Feminine nouns are words for women, girls and female animals. A “collective noun” refers to “plural-only” words such as cattle for cows and people for person. There are currently around 8.74 million species worldwide which includes bats, whales, blah blah blah, each with their own collective noun as well as gender classification.

Some nouns are used for both males and females. These nouns are referred to as common gender nouns.

With animals, there is one general word for the animal. There are however many species of animals, particularly those domesticated, who have been given specific names for the male, the female.

Now we already know we have a collective noun for baby dragons

But what about male and females. What are they called, what is a group of them called?

For guardians we know it's a charge most likely I dunno

But what do you call a male guardian,

what do you call a female.

For me I'll give my example and start with snappers

Since snappers remind me of hippopotami in many a way , I believe a female is called a sow or cow, while a male is called a bull and babies (besides hatchlings) are called calfs . A group is called a pod, herd, dale, or bloat.

While a proper plural noun for Tundras and Snappers, calling a court of Imperials a herd is generally done to compare them to deer, by way of their antlers.

Empire (of Imperials):
A group of Imperials which the speaker thinks are being unkind or cruel is occasionally referred to as an empire of Imperials, although no dragon who's ever actually fought an Emperor uses the term.

A group of dragons in general could be called a thunder (sound of dragons in flight), a hold, or a wing.

since some people are asking about About male imperials being called "emperors"

The reason it was chosen and put on the list by me is because of the thought of more tyrannical imperial leader's, Especially *proud* Males who Actually take pride in having something like a emperor in their family history. While others see bad omen Others see pride in knowing their related to something large and powerful. With something That powerful in their family history let's face it most imperial males would probably have the gall to call themselves emperors to strike fear into other dragons especially other imperials who know just how bad a Emperor can get.

Either way, Mirrors get wolf status imo.
Its in their lore that they run in packs.
That makes Females a term we cant mention here and Males would just be wolves or sires.

I would imagine dragons of any gender to just be Dragons since any other word seems odd and makes me think not-dragon. I'm not fond of slapping -ess onto words since Author and Actor seem like they ought to be perfectly neutral to me, but I can see Dragoness being used by some people.

And I bet a group of dragons would be called a clan - since that's what all our dragon groups are called! Although mirrors are said to form packs.

(Also, the charge of a guardian is the thing it chooses to protect for its life - could be a dragon, could be a rock, could be a place. I don't know that it necessarily would be used to refer to guardians as a group...)

I'm glad I'm not the only one who had that thought LOL. That said, this is a good thread so IDC what they think.

I always relate Skydancers to birds, so a group of them would be a flock? I'm not sure what you call male/female birds....Do they HAVE specific names?

What if Coatl's were like cats...With males being toms, females being queens and a group being a clutter, or clowder?

I agree with associating Skydancers to birds. I thought either swans or peacocks, but both of their gendered names sound... well.

Then I saw that male ducks were called drakes (and females hens), so it seems appropriate in relation to them being dragons and all.
