TOPIC | WHY SO RAINBOW GRADIENT
1 2 3 4 5
I don't really understand how a gradient can go so wrong on warm colors. Iri on cool colors is beautiful. On warm colors it turns into fruit. It took me literally 30 seconds to grab colors for these. Banana Maroon Orange Why did Undel feel the need to introduce cool colors into the already lacking warm ranges? There's really no need for muddy or ugly colors in warm ranges, even when they go darker. Just make them deeper and more saturated and all the issues of muddiness go away like??????

I am in no way an artist, but it looks more like she used a hue gradient rather than a shade gradient. According to the dictionary, "iridescent" is defined as:

-displaying a play of lustrous colors like those of the rainbow.
or
-displaying a spectrum of colours that shimmer and change due to interference and scattering as the observer's position changes

I think that is why there is a shift in color.

@Reboot In my lame examples I also shifted hue in order to eliminate the 'mud' the yellows and oranges get when you make them darker. This little bird throat is a lovely example of how Iri didn't need to shift 'cool' at all. Yeah... This is why I have so few iridescents. And why my OC dragon in my avatar will forever remain basic. Iridescent on warms is bleck. Especially for Fire because I expected Fire iri would look, well... flame ish. It doesn't.

I wouldn't mind it so much if there was a separate gene for just, well, shiny or a gradient that didn't make my warm colors and my neutrals shift blue and purple and green. :B

It's hard to breed warm colors if you've got Iri because suddenly your dragons are green.

.-. It might be because I just plain don't like warm colors, but I actually really, really, like the mass shift that some of the colors get. Doesn't look good on every dragon or color or color combination, but I feel like it really gives it some life when it does!

I'm another weirdo who not only likes the rainbow shift on warms but wishes it were stronger on a lot of color. Iridescence is one of my favorite visual effects and I wish the gene was more dramatic on some colors. Same for Shimmer. I know I'm strange though. I just don't get how you can dislike this: Or this: Or this! Mmmmmm Crimson iri... To each their own I guess.

I can kind of see both sides on this one. I actually am thinking of making a point of collecting iri dragons in the breeds/colors with the most dramatic variations. (I'm also really fond of the way iri and shimmer can bring out the different shades of almost-black.) But... I can also understand being taken aback by the sudden appearance of, say, green on an orange dragon. (Or gold.) And while it's understandable for red to shade into purple or yellow to shade into green -- and I kind of feel like sunshine could legitimately go all over the place ;) -- I can definitely see feeling that more of the oranges should stick to a warm yellow-through-red.
