Thus while I am supremely cuddly and can inspire feelings of love and safety in most any hatchling of any species, I am also capable of, for example, having hatchlings of my own. My heart beats, my talons claw, but probably as part of my Velveteen heritage, damage taken, for example in Coliseum battles, seems to require rather less in the way of healing potions and more in the way of stitches. [/quote] "I was born with them, my mother had patches of transparent scales too and it passed down onto me. I am not completely sure what causes it, but I'm certain it is genetic. My grandfather's scales actually mostly consisted of transparent scales. It's quite interesting, if only I knew what causes it.." He spoke with a quiet tone as he glanced at his transparent scales. Short answer is, there may have been an answer, but I forgot to put it in my notes doc. Long answer is, it's an open-ended question to be answered on a rainy day when I want to write but need a prompt. I'd feel bad giving an answer that just amounts to "there is no answer", though, so... One of Erased's parents was exalted, while the other is in an inactive lair. Additionally, both of her siblings with Contour were exalted. All of them are effectively 'dead' from a game-mechanical standpoint, so why not translate that into an in-story standpoint? Someone wanted them gone - or more specifically, wanted their runes gone, going so far as to erase them before finishing the job. Erased ended up escaping, though - she must have been young when that happened, given that she didn't even have a name before her runes were erased, not to mention how she doesn't seem to remember the incident. This leads to the conclusion that there was something about Erased and her siblings' runes that someone considered enough of a threat to warrant such extreme measures. This could be because they held an unusual power. Runes, even in gene form, are often seen as magical in some way. The patterning from Erased's Giraffe gene could be argued to look like cracks - like power trying to escape from beneath her skin. Consider the Imperial breed's default Coliseum setup - their stats are geared towards magic, but they start out with a moveset geared towards melee. Unfulfilled potential. For now, it remains an open-ended question. Maybe there'll be a concrete answer someday, maybe I'll get distracted writing Pokémon fanfiction. Who knows! Certainly not me.)
