Leyland was expecting nearly anything except for this. Death. Decay. A hollowed, sun-bleached birch with bark stripping like paper from his sides. Instead of dripping with life and growth, he sheds ashy flakes with each step. You can hear him coming, rustling like dead leaves in the wind. Leyland left his own clan once he was of age, but didn't travel far. After all, where else would a curse-touched thing like he go, but the Tourmaline Archives? Perhaps he would always stand out, amidst the brilliantly shining and colorful atmosphere. Maybe he would have found more kin, in the depths of the shadow clans, or the pits of plague. But this was his home. And nothing--not curse, destiny, or anything else--would drive him away from his home.
