TEMPORARY PREFACE Hey! Good to see ya! This lore thread is incomplete. It's okay to post to it now, though - I've reserved what space I need! If you'd like to added to a pinglist to be alerted when it's fully complete, feel free to reply with a ping! For the confused yet curious: this thread is a lore & game thread involving two opposing teams. Participating dragons will be able to challenge one another and compete to collect as many ancient tomes as possible, in hopes of obtaining them all! While the rules and mechanics are still a work in progress, my hope is that individual dragons will be able to compete, rather than clans - meaning you'll be able to keep dragons from both sides in your lair and each still be an active participant in the feud! While the lore you see below is from the perspectives of a pair of mated dragons, this isn't a lineage/breeding project - any dragon can participate! All they'll need is a registration on one side or another. Eventually that'll be one of the things this thread will be used for! You may be asking yourself: "Okay Fly, well if it's not a lineage project, what the heck is this "descendants" tab?" to which I would respond, "why are you asking yourself? I'm right here." (har har.) I'd also like to make it easy for people who don't like writing lore or don't have the time to spare yet still wanna get involved in the game to... well, do just that! Hatchlings with one parent who has membership will automatically be guaranteed membership and can be registered when they hatch upon request (provided their lair has the space for the number of registered dragons). In addition to regular registration and actual gameplay, this thread will serve as an easy way for clans to trade and sell dragons with memberships! So, it won't just be for descendants of course. (I may change the name of the tab for this clarification, but I may still leave it just for lore/aesthetic purposes!) - Fly ---------- The Wake of Luminax ECPA, the Empyrean Knights & the Seekers of Solspruce Hollow [columns] ________________ LORE [nextcol] ________________ ECPA MEMBERSHIP [nextcol] ________________ JOIN THE KNIGHTS [nextcol] ________________ SEEKERS OF THE TOMES [nextcol] ________________ DESCENDANTS [/columns] ____Somewhere in the heart of the Sunbeam Ruins, an unassuming, perfectly hollow tree once stood in natural disguise. Within the heart of the half-barren spruce of amber needles, a miniature repository of ancient tomes and tales could be found under the guard of an equally miniature dragon. The plague-hearted veilspun, Bonsai, had spent his days alone, in frequent torpor, guarding the ancient texts since before the time of modern dragons. Only when Lightweaver’s rays of warmth poured through a single window twice per year would Bonsai stir, rise, and recuperate, solely to feed and carefully maintain his collection; this was never meant to last, however. ____Luminax arose. The undead behemoth left destruction in its wake, but even as the Sunbeam Ruins trembled, a few brave dragons saw the disastrous event as an opportunity. Some saw a chance to study the creature, some discovered its usefulness in uncovering buried artifacts, and some decided it was the perfect circumstance to raid and steal what Luminax didn’t obliterate. It had been only a short while after their kind had been revealed to the world, but the hatchling, Orchid, had always possessed a dangerously adventurous spirit. Combined with her passion for writing, she was compelled to set out and discover her own material to write about. When Orchid learned from a rare passer-by of the destruction of Luminax, she knew this was her chance to record the efforts of those escaping its path - and even assist their efforts and save a few lives in the process. She bid her parents farewell and ventured to the Sunbeam Ruins. ____Orchid studied Luminax’s movements and habits carefully from afar, plotting and tracking its travels and territories on maps. Unlike most of the dragons who came to study or profit from Luminax, who mainly trailed well behind the shamling amalgam, she used her gathered data to predict where the zombified emperor would go next, warning and assisting those who lay in its path. The stories of success and tales of those who stood valiantly in the face of the monstrosity found their way into the novelist’s pages, but with Luminax’s path ever-changing, there was no time to publish. She felt for the dragons of the Ruins and chose not to waste a moment. ____Soon, Orchid’s efforts combined with those of like-minded dragons began to pay off immensely. Her team of cartographers, rescuers, and self-proclaimed “emperor specialists” - the Emperor Catastrophe Prevention Association, or “ECPA” for short - had become efficient at predicting Luminax’s movements and leading rescue missions. All the while, Orchid wrote about ECPA’s encounters and objectives, resulting in an increase in awareness of the organization’s mission statement. The raiders in Luminax’s wake, who had become colloquially known as the ”Empyrean Knights,” had asserted themselves as ECPA’s malicious rivals, stealing Luminax intelligence and supplies every chance they could get. ____When Luminax’s path began to meander away from local clans, Orchid went alone into the untouched woods where it seemed to be heading about 3 hours in advance. There, she discovered a hollow tree inhabited only by miniature shelves stocked full of tomes, a small food store, and a lonely Bonsai in torpor. She knew if she didn’t act fast and wake him he’d inevitably be smashed along with his library hollow, so she warmed him up as quickly as she could. Bonsai, when he learned of what was to occur, was distraught but grateful for Orchid’s help. ____“Please, these books are precious. They contain forbidden secrets of the gods, and most aren’t fit to be read by dragonkind, even my own eyes. I keep them safe until they are needed for an event not yet come to pass. You must help me save them, or my life’s work will be all for naught!” ____Together they gathered up as many precious books as they could carry. Just as the hulking shadow of Luminax began to loom over the forest, a band of Empyrean Knights much larger than they flocked the scene. They had become wise to some of ECPA’s recent predictions and tracked Orchid’s travel, and made the decision to steal as many mysterious books as they could in the panic of the rescue’s final moments. Thanks to the raiders' expert timing, no books were destroyed with the library, but a huge number ended up in nefarious claws. ____Orchid and Bonsai, under the guidance of ECPA, forged a pact and set out on a journey with three objectives: Firstly, they aimed to recover the Lost Tomes of Solspruce Hollow from the clutches of the Empyrean Knights. Secondly, they intended to spread the word about ECPA to faraway dragons in hopes of bolstering recruitment efforts and gaining support. Finally, they swore to uncover the identities of the Knights, thwart their schemes, and cripple their expansion to the far ends of Sornieth. The bonded pair vowed to stick together, and by the time they reached the Windswept Plateau following their first lead, they had to stop so they could set down their first nest together. Soon, their adventurous family had begun, and they watched as their hatchlings grew and dispersed, many taking their parents’ quest into their own claws in their own unique ways.
