(don't mind her outfit, she's a fashion disaster bc i'm prepping her outfit for when she no longer has to be my lightning rep) i've always liked smoke personally, but its usage is pretty situational IMO. i like using it to highlight color contrasts or with certain xyzs bc color harmonies and all that jazz without being too obnoxious. i used it on jushen in particular bc he's a ghost and while opal would've made him look nicer with his breeding partner (who also has an opal tert), smoke makes him look ghostly without getting weird with ghost.

It is situational for sure, but I think there are far worse genes that could claim second worst title. Usually the matchier to the rest of its body color the better, but some make due with contrasting smoke.
