She bore eggs fruitlessly, each of which found itself eventually tangled up in the wars of a deity they barely worshiped, gave her heart freely to any dragon that would take it, and explored vice as it presented itself. She was by no means a cruel or undeserving dragon - simply a lost one, pitting her woe towards no useful source. That all changed when she happened upon a clan that practiced Redempestism. A religion that took advantage of sorrow and steered it towards a divine cause was just the breakthrough the guardian needed, which was around the time she changed her name to her now-titular Somehow. It was a name that exemplified her ever-forwards struggle to put her sorrow to use. Her work ethic allowed her to rise the ranks of the religion's offices, until she donned the sacred cloth across her face and mouth that only the most devoted are granted. It is around this time in a high ranking Redempest's life that they settle on a life mission devoted to the religion. Her thoughts wandered to that of her past hatchlings, sacrifices to battles they scarcely understood.
"My mission," Somehow announced on that fateful day before a feast of her peers, "is to settle with a permanent Redempest mate and bring forth a line of missionaries in our hatchlings, so that their children may too follow their work in spreading our word."
And thus it was settled. Who could argue with the goal of someone of her standing?

[font=open sans][size=4]After some deliberation, the clan brought forth a young guardian to help forwards the task presented by their divine officer, whom had joined their cause not long after Somehow's cloth-granting. It was clear that he was enthralled with her and her words - who better? Somehow accepted the proposal, and dubbed her mate Somewhat: thus was his name henceworth.
The two bid farewell to the clan that had gifted them with such divinity soon after, seeking to establish a small community of Redempests of their own. The eventually established a camp within the Breach. Not only was its relative seclusion a perfect means to concentration, but it was Sornieth's original source of sadness - the Earthshaker dwelled below, still grieving his siblings. It is here they still remain. Their grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and beyond live alongside them, where they are reared in the means of missionary work. Once they go off, it is expected for them to have hatchlings of their own that are in turn sent to the camp, continuing the process that they themselves went through. While it's to be expected that many hatchlings never take the pilgrimage, Somehow and Somewhat's rate of missionary creation is incredible, and a powerful force in potentially magnifying the reach of the Redempests within Sornieth, whom have always been a religious minority. Redempests believe strongly in the concept of original sin - the idea that sin has existed in Sornieth ever since the Arcanist inadvertently invited the Shade back to the world, shattering the Pillar. Since then, Sornieth has been split between deities, causes, wars, ideologies - all of which have only invited sin to infest the world even further. It is only through the rumination upon and apology for these grievous acts that peace can be achieved. By constantly examining, mourning, accepting, and otherwise fixating on Sornieth's torrid history, Redempests believe that they can restore balance to the universe and bring about an era of peace. This can only be achieved when a large majority of dragons are concentrating on such events. It is the hope of Redempests that in working towards this goal, they will eventually live to see a day where they can leave behind Sornieth's pain and think of better days.
These are the basic beliefs of Redempests: past that, they can be of any dragon race or look any way. And, of course, many of them approach and understand their religion in different ways.

[columns]Like members of any religion, Redempests can have a variety of personalities. It may be easy to believe that all Redempests are sorrowful pessimists due to their beliefs, and certainly, some are, but many are also hopeful, kind, caring, etc. The one trait that current practitioners of the religion have in common is a strong connection to their religious community - as most small religions enjoy. Sorrow is expressed by dragons in a unique variety of ways, and while it is common for Redempests to be moved to tears while in reflection, some may express their feelings in a totally different way. A part of every day should be dedicated to "reflection", the period during which Redempests focus on Sornieth's past, feeling guilt and begging the world for forgiveness. Ideally, this time should be spent alone or with other Redempests for maximum effectiveness.
Redempests acknowledge the toll such reflection can take on its members, and suggest that new converts slowly build up to longer and longer reflections. Highly ranked religious officers - such as Somehow and Somewhat - earn their status by being able to withstand reflection for weeks at a time. Not every Redempest is capable of reaching this point, but that is not the point of reflection - the point of reflection is for each dragon to give what they are wholly capable of. Hatchlings are not permitted to engage in reflection until young adulthood.[/columns][/center]

[columns][size=3]Everyday Redempests have no set outfit that they must adorn. However, those highest among their ranks, who can handle being within reflection for weeks at a time, don cloths over their entire face as a symbol of their accomplishment - effectively locking them out from the surrounding world and into a state of at least base-level reflection.
(The Sage sets are optimal for these "cloths", and their mouths can be sealed with a rogue mask. But feel free to get creative!)
Dragons who don face cloths are wholly occupied by the religion and work exclusively within it. Some work within the religion to achieve this high rank, and often work as the "eyes" of their covered superiors - filling out paperwork and generally guiding them through the seeing world. They are also utilized as failsafes should continuous reflection drive their blinded charges mad, hopefully snapping them out of their stupor. However, Redempests can reasonably take on any occupation that does not directly conflict with the religion and its morals.

These are the basic beliefs of Redempests: past that, they can be of any dragon race or look any way. And, of course, many of them approach and understand their religion in different ways.
Personalities:

Like members of any religion, Redempests can have a variety of personalities. It may be easy to believe that all Redempests are sorrowful pessimists due to their beliefs, and certainly, some are, but many are also hopeful, kind, caring, etc. The one trait that current practitioners of the religion have in common is a strong connection to their religious community - as most small religions enjoy. Sorrow is expressed by dragons in a unique variety of ways, and while it is common for Redempests to be moved to tears while in reflection, some may express their feelings in a totally different way.

Everyday Life:

Redempests are expected to pull their weight. A part of every day should be dedicated to "reflection", the period during which Redempests focus on Sornieth's past, feeling guilt and begging the world for forgiveness. Ideally, this time should be spent alone or with other Redempests for maximum effectiveness.
Redempests acknowledge the toll such reflection can take on its members, and suggest that new converts slowly build up to longer and longer reflections. Highly ranked religious officers - such as Somehow and Somewhat - earn their status by being able to withstand reflection for weeks at a time. Not every Redempest is capable of reaching this point, but that is not the point of reflection - the point of reflection is for each dragon to give what they are wholly capable of. Hatchlings are not permitted to engage in reflection until young adulthood.

Clothing and Occupations:
Everyday Redempests have no set outfit that they must adorn. However, those highest among their ranks, who can handle being within reflection for weeks at a time, don cloths over their entire face as a symbol of their accomplishment - effectively locking them out from the surrounding world and into a state of at least base-level reflection.
(The Sage sets are optimal for these "cloths", and their mouths can be sealed with a rogue mask. But feel free to get creative!)
Dragons who don face cloths are wholly occupied by the religion and work exclusively within it. Some work within the religion to achieve this high rank, and often work as the "eyes" of their covered superiors - filling out paperwork and generally guiding them through the seeing world. They are also utilized as failsafes should continuous reflection drive their blinded charges mad, hopefully snapping them out of their stupor. However, Redempests can reasonably take on any occupation that does not directly conflict with the religion and its morals.
Historians and writers also flourish among the ranks of the Redempests, as these are occupations benefited by a knowledge of history and bereavement.

Traditions:
Traditions within the Redempests vary from clan culture to clan culture, but a few basic ones exist:
- Naming Ceremonies: Dragons whom achieve weeks-long reflection are honored in a public feast hosted by their peers, the highlight of which is the celebrated dragon choosing their preferred title, which is how they will be referred to as soon as it is revealed. This title is related to the religion and often influenced by their approach to it - for example, Somehow chose "The Mother of Sorrows" because of her decision to birth missionaries. Depending on their wishes, face cloths may be presented to the honored dragons.
- Breakwomb: When the moon becomes full, taking on the appearance of a dragon's body pre-egg laying, all Redempests are permitted a break from reflection: even those with face cloths, who may even remove them, if they so choose.
