I actually prefer smoke to crackle most of the time. It depends on the colors, though. I just changed a crackle dragon to smoke just because her tert was overwhelming her other colors, and smoke is a very small amount of color. If she didn't have a contrasting tert then that crackle would've been fine. I like it a lot more when it matches the primary, or if it's a nice bright color like leaf or ice.
Like I have this girl all dressed up in a skin, but I think if I give her crackle she'll really pop:

That's true tho, the tert color's really important. I'm just usually fine with clashing colors on a coatl, and I really like how crackle outlines their wings uwu super lovely.

If it was a white or lavender crackle it could've stayed and looked lovely, but it was gold so it needed to be toned down. Besides, her mate's a spiral, and crackle is kind of uneven on spirals. I prefer it much more on coatls, fae and ridgebacks where it's distributed much better. I'm hoping that piebald will help even out the pattern a bit so crackle will look much better on spirals.
