Silkspun Main | Weavers | Prowlers

Silkspun are a subspecies of veilspun with spiderlike traits. In pockets all over Sornieth, silkspun make a living out of all manner of environments. Some roam and hunt on the move, others depend on their skill as web weavers, and others make use of unique and unusual abilities.

The records here concern silkspun who don't quite follow the form of prowler or weaver. Unorthodox silkspun do not have the innate need to spin silk like weavers do, but may not necessarily stalk prey or have the high-calorie diets of prowlers. They do not have specific characteristics that group them together, as their physiology is as varied as their behaviors.

However, while silkspun are rarely seen with non-object or non-buglike familiars, the outliers with the odd fish or cat are most likely to be unorthodox silkspun.

Their coloration may be slightly or entirely off, and their wings and manes retain the glisten of a Bolas. Even the best match cannot trick the truesight of a Peacock Jumping silkspun, but they may fool others, especially those with poorer vision like Cellar silkspun. [/columns] [columns][right] Some use their mimicry as a way to hunt what they copy; others just want the abilities they may gain. Their venom composition will also match any silkspun they mimic, with the exception of the Brown Recluse. The day they undergo their most major change is a special event for them, essentially a coming of age. Some even make a celebration of it, depending on their social life. They then create a chrysalis and lie dormant for anywhere from a week to a year. Equally rare is for a Bolas silkspun to forgo their Chrysalis Day and not take on their big change at all. These exceptions are unrecognizable to even those who have met a Bolas before, as most have never seen their “true” state. Other Bolas will find it especially shocking. [/columns] [columns][right] The body of a true Bolas is somewhat viscous and slimelike. While a Mimic Bolas will have dietary needs matching the body they copied, a True Bolas tends to favor insects. They are dogged in whatever they set their mind to, and can have something of a one-track mind. Friends may lovingly describe them as a bit intense. XCyM2Ag.png Even among their fellow unorthodox, these silkspun are rather odd. At birth, their main body is a clouded color with swirling patterns that move and shift. They are covered in a substance of strange consistency, particularly on their wings and mane. They hatch alone, and must quickly find their own way of survival.
They are mimics—as they mature, they begin to focus entirely to a niche, and their body may undergo extreme adaptations to better fit it. Other silkspun are the most suitable subjects for copy, and many Bolas silkspun choose to emulate another variation.
