It is exactly what we aim to be. This is a place of knowledge, a place of healing, and a place of spiritual awakening. Right now, it is but a crystallized cave system by the coastline of the Starfall Isles, with the Starwood Strand and the limits of the Wandering Contagion to the southeast. Not many people acknowledge its presence, but it won't be long before the world knows about the vast knowledge and magical talents we keep here. [font=baskerville][size=5][b]ORGANIZATION[/b][/size][/font] [b]Altosacro is not only a clan, but also a Magic Academy.[/b] Dragons from other allied clans may come and go freely, some staying temporarily to find the knowledge they seek before returning to their home clans. [b]The members[/b] of this clan live permanently in the academy; they may be allowed into the Scriptorium once they reach adulthood, and are recognized as members by the Headmistress herself in a [b]Logbook[/b] that she keeps in her office. [b]Leadership[/b] in the clan is similar to that of a monarchy. [b]The Headmistress[/b] has absolute authority regarding the clan's decisions, together with her spouse, who holds an equivalent authority by association. She is surrounded by a [b]Council[/b] of dragons of her own choosing, whose members have proven their talent and worth in academical standards. The Council may speak up and debate about important issues, such as student agenda, dealing with emergencies, negotiation with other clans, or issues with the Kin (which seems to take up most of their meetings). However, final decisions are exclusively for the Headmistress to make. [b]Succession[/b] to the seat of Headmistress is determined by descent, gender (females may precede their brothers), academic achievement, and flight alignment (the hatchling must be under the protection of the Arcanist). If more than one candidate fit the criteria, the previous Headmistress may choose her successor. If that is not possible, the Council will vote and make the decision. [b]The High Counselor[/b] is the most respected figure in the Council, and provides spiritual guidance for teachers and students alike. This title may [b]only be earned[/b] through exceptional talent and achievement, and has to be accepted willingly. Members of the Council may take a small number of bright [b]apprentices[/b] to focus on their branch of knowledge, and these special lessons will take priority over regular ones. This gives them the additional title of [b]Master/Mistress[/b]. Before it became a school, it used to be a palace, home of the deceased (and wealthy) parents of one of the founders of the academy. [b]The northern side[/b] of the peak is tilted toward the coastline, and the clan's territory includes some of the smaller islands that are close by. It is a perfect place for researching marine life, fishing, or simply relaxing on a hot day. [b]The southern side[/b] of the peak takes up a nice patch of the Starwood Forest, where members of the clan have started to build cave-like classrooms, dens, or even tree-houses from which to observe forest life. [b]The mountain[/b] itself is beautifully and expertly carved on the inside, with large, impressive crystalline halls and passageways that can feel almost labyrinthic to newcomers. From the outside, it's easy to see a great, polished main opening through which dragons of all sizes can enter, as well as various platforms perfect for perching. [font=baskerville][size=5][b]RELEVANT LOCATIONS[/b][/size][/font] [b]MAIN HALL[/b] It is the first room you see as you enter through the main opening. It is large and mostly diaphanous, as its main purpose is to hold a great number of dragons in the same place. Whenever there is an important ceremony or announcement, teachers and students will reunite here. It is also a place for feasts, lectures, and for the weekly communal prayer to the Arcanist, to which all students are invited, even from other flights or outsiders. Most of the time, however, it is fairly empty, save for the students or teachers passing through or checking the big announcement stone tablet on the wall. [b]LIBRARY[/b] Easily one of the busiest places in Altosacro, it is where our main base of knowledge is held. All the learning material is here and is public for all visitors to read, although only students may take books with them to the dorms or outside. As scrolls are more fragile, only teachers are allowed to take them out of the library. [b]HOMEROOM & NESTING GROUNDS[/b] A true marvel of cave engineering, these caverns are carefully structured so the warmth from deep below the earth is trapped in the crystal, resulting in a cozy environment, ideal for keeping eggs in perfect condition even while their parents are away. The nests are hidden in small enclosures for intimacy, but they are all closely connected to the Homeroom, where the youngest hatchlings receive their first lessons in magic. The members of the clan believe that being able to listen to the lessons will help with the development of unhatched eggs. This way, the parents will also get to know more about what their children will learn, and who they will be entrusted to. [/columns] [columns] [b]CLASSROOMS[/b] For the Altosacro Clan, [b]anywhere[/b] can be a potential classroom. Every day, student groups are assigned a teacher, and will spend all morning following them wherever they deem necessary for the lesson. There are, of course, many spaces that are prepared for this purpose, such as caverns provided with writing tablets, coastal caves and cottages, and forest clearings. If two teachers happen to bring their groups to the same location, it may evolve into a joint class! Of course, most times teachers will talk it out among themselves before choosing a location. [b]DENS[/b] Clan members, and outsiders who are temporarily staying in the academy, are assigned a personal den in which they may sleep and keep their privacy. Most dragons will start building their own den, inside or close to the mountain, once they reach maturity. There are some design restrictions that have to do with keeping the mountain peak structurally sound, and they should not be located in public spaces (like the library or the main hall) but otherwise they are free to make them how they wish, and where they wish. This creates some interesting and fun variety of dens that helps make each student's space personal and special. Newcomers and temporal stays, however, will probably have to use one of the numerous empty caverns inside the mountain. [b]LABORATORY[/b] For any normal, safe teaching experience, anywhere can be a classroom. In cases where lessons may be... [i]dangerous[/i], there's the laboratory. This is the preferred area of work of the clan's alchemist, who keeps it in top-notch condition at all times. It is a very large space, filled with the most curious, mysterious artifacts, machines, potions and elixirs. Eye protection when entering is mandatory. [b]OBSERVATORY[/b] Sitting outside, right on top of the library, where one can see the stars in all their glory, is the domain of the astronomers. Here is one of the most priced treasures in Altosacro Academy: [b]the Telescope[/b]. It was given to the founder of the academy by the Arcanist himself, and with his blessing, we study the stars in the hopes of reaching them one day. [b]SCRIPTORIUM[/b] This large, solemn, almost eerie room could be considered a second library, as it is filled with numerous scrolls, documents, star maps, and other sketched bits of knowledge. However, the ones lucky enough to enter will know instantly that this is different. This is closer to being a chapel, a holy place, than a simple library. Here is where those who have made great progress come to write and record their findings, lessons and essays. Here is where brilliant scholars make their mark on the world. The process of imprinting knowledge into parchment is almost ritualistic here, and only those worthy enough are allowed to enter. This room is mostly used by the members of the Council. [b]STUDENTS:[/b] - [b]Shall[/b] arrive to class on time. - [b]Shall[/b] respect and listen to teachers, as they are wiser than them. - [b]Shall[/b] try to do their assignments and jobs to the best of their ability. - [b]Shall[/b] keep public spaces clean and usable by other dragons. - [b]Shall[/b] care for the books and materials they borrow as the most precious treasures. - [b]Shall[/b] do their best to participate in clan celebrations and festivities, as long as they study here. - [b]Shall not[/b] go to the observatory, the Scriptorium, nor venture into the forest or out of clan territory, without adult supervision. - [b]Shall[/b] respect their clan mates and fellow students as partners in the path to knowledge, no matter which flight they may originate from. - [b]Shall[/b] acknowledge and respect the divinity and teachings of the Arcanist, no matter which flight they may originate from. - [b]Shall[/b] always strive to know more about this world and the magical energies that drive it. Relationships with the followers of the [b]Lightweaver[/b] are very close, as their most favored alchemist is native to the Sunbeam Ruins. [font=baskerville][size=5][b]ENEMIES[/b][/size][/font] Senseless violence is severely discouraged here, so their members have not done much to earn anybody's enmity. However, there are currently growing tensions between Altosacro and a primitive, tribal neighboring clan called the [b]Kin of the Gifted Eye[/b]. Even though most are fellow arcane dragons, they have very different views. They despise the academy's so-called progress, considering their modern society to be a disgrace to the study of magic, and fear for the fate of their forest.
