TOPIC | [IC] Art Dump // Help me price my art?
1 2 3

hello there! i've recently gotten back into art this year after many, many years away from any of it. digital art is a brand new medium for me, and i've never really thought i was good enough to sell my art previously .__. but this year has inspired me to get out there!~ i'm debating whether or not i should just keep practicing so i have an actual set of completed example pieces, or if accountability from opening up an art shop and commissions is a better route. if the latter, then i was hoping for some help with pricing, as i don't trust my own eye as a good judge of pricing any of my own work lol feel free to leave me any constructive criticism as well! i really am looking to improve as much as i possibly can! most of these are wips / indefinitely incomplete as i'm shifting through different techniques i'm learning with digital tools ;-; sorry there's nothing super concrete yet. in order from the oldest (~9mo) to the most current piece this is more of a really rough general environmental concept ^ this eventually turned into this instead current wip: progress shots! thank you in advance! ^^

You should totally continue working. Your stuff is super nice! Love the demon looking girl.

If you want to sell your art I would time how long it takes to do the piece and give yourself the living wage of where you live. (For example, the minimum wage for the US is about $7.50 hourly but a living wage is $15 hourly) Then add the price of the materials used. If you use photoshop I wouldn't add $600 to every piece but add a fraction. A tip I have gotten is to overprice your work because if people want your work they will pay. Most importantly don't undervalue your work and time they are both valuable.

@CorporealBeing Ahh, thank you for that bit of advice, it's actually really important to know. I spend a lot more time than I should from all the tunnel visioning, so I think it should help to find a price that forces balancing on my end as well. It's definitely something to factor in now that I definitely didn't consider much before, so thank you! <3

If you'll be accepting fr currency, I'd personally place a price of 500 gems for a rough sketch on the cheap end and 5000 gems for a full body colored and shaded with solid color background, and use these two as a price judging guide for the rest. The only time I ever used real money for a commission (many years ago when I was still young and bright eyed, using Christmas money (first time I'd ever had a triple digit sum all my own)) the artist gave me an incomplete image, never even started the others and vamoosed with a 'My bf says the computer or him sorry can't refund you guys already spent it' message left in their last journal, so I honestly have no clue how much real money art is worth anymore
