Besart's lore

My lair has lore not related to FR, but still keeps some minor connection. While I like Sornieth, my lair has some different concepts to better suit my tastes, as I sometimes like drawing or imagining my characters as humans. In short, they don't always live in a den, clan, etc.

The Past

Before the country received the name Besart and the empire came to be, there were many cities and groups scattered, each on their own and battles were commom between them.
House Ivar was for sure the strongest force on the country back then. However they lack some organization. Their power only lost to a city in the north, home of Great House Caradhras.

The location of House Ivar is the same where today is the Besart Capitol. And the location of House Caradhras is the same that today is Sigvard.

Besart Empire

Besart is an empire, a big nation with around 16 major cities, that is located between the Sunbeam Ruins and the Shifting Expanse, but closer to the Mirrorlight Promenade on Light Borders. The capitol of the empire also takes it's name, is located center-north and is home to the King and Queen.

The monarchs oversee a group of earls called Yggerhall, composed of Toresius, Jolfriga, Vanhild, Hjalmar and Normund.

Yggerhall

>> At the north of Besart Empire is Sigvard, under the domain of Toresius and Jolfriga.

>> In the midlands, close to Besart Capitol is the city of Vitserk, under control of Vanhild and Hjalmar.

>> By the East is Yngveldr, under control of Normund.

Queen and King
The All Mother & The All Father

Nozette was raised on the court of the clan called House Ivar, that would one day become Besart Capitol. By that time, that House Ivar was the bigger and the better organized force in that region.

While not in the line of sucession for clan leadership, Nozette learned on her own account how to deal with the decadent and power hungry members of the House Ivar. She perfected not only her courtsy, but also her warriorship, becoming a strong shieldmaiden. Thunder followed her in battle and was her favorite sound.

As Nozette aged, her eyes opened to the unfairness of House Ivar's society and the lack of ability to rule that the clan leader displayed. He was not doing the needed job of keeping the surrounding cities neither at bay nor under control and they also caused tragedies without second thought. There was no unified power on the region and under her eyes, the House Ivar would not prosper if measures weren't taken.

In secret, she organized a coup with her friend Vanhild and the best soldiers they could find. Warriors who earned their trust in battle and in other occasions.

After a gruesome fight, House Ivar leader ends dead by her own claws. The dream of expanding territory and uniting the cities was close now, the only hindrance appearing on a contestant for the crown of clan leader. An Imperial arrived with a small fleet, Khelgaro, and was also eager to sweep the crown during the chaos following Nozette's coup.

Both dragons knew they had the means of fighting for the crown and many dragons died in the following battles as Nozette controlled the capitol under siege and Khelgaro tried to conquer it from the sea.

As a means to cease conflict, Nozette approaches him seeking a diplomatic solution. Talking, rather than facing each other on the battlefield, they realized that Besart could be their fate. They learned of their similar pleas and goals, knowing that the whole region was a mess and that things needed to be done. Both wanted more and yet, both wanted the same thing. It was not an easy begining, but soon they came into agreeing to form an alliance and became Queen and King of the newly stablished Besart Empire.

She didn't have a hard nor greedy nature, but being raised among snakes, silver tongues and other spiders alike in House Ivar, she was from an early age smart and wise. When she wanted something, nothing could set her on a different path. The years brought patience, discernment and strenght to her stubborn nature. She learned to tell what was good from bad on House Ivar and knew she had to step up to the challenge if she wanted to rule. Greatness meant great costs.

In the middle of a war with a neighbooring city, Nozette and her allies finally put their plans into action. They followed her through the coup that crowned Nozette Queen, through alliances with opposing parties and through the stablishment of herself and Khelgaro as the rulling monarchs of the new clan sitting on Besart Capitol.

But House Ivar was only the beginning. Under her reign, the city organized itself to lay conquest on the chaos found on the country. To slam a hammer with thunder sounds and cold breath on the lands that would one day form the Besart Empire.

Very few could thrive in the north. Dragons who did where hard and had the harshness of the elements on them, almost as if the very cold was part of them. It took a long time for the region to find any sort of settlement but once it did, it quickly grew to become the second largest becoming know as Great House Caradhras, losing in power only to House Ivar in the midlands.

Northern dragons were used to sail and going far, conquering places and treasure on their raids which would be brought back to the mainland. As the area found itself growing, the raids stopped, and the leaders of House Caradhras found themselves unwilling to carry on with their pillage and sailings. The whispers often sounded like voices, other times as crows and even as thunder, but they spoke of the same: a growing organized kingdom.

From this alliance came the partnership that would stablish the Besart Empire. It wasn't easy for the two in the beginning, but Khelgaro and Nozette soon realized they could have more together than they could dream of having alone.

It took years of conquest around the midlands before Khelgaro and Nozette set their eyes on the northern lands of House Caradhras. The shackles on his wrist, wings and ankles pained his members. He dreamt most about good food, warm and welcoming, then about the sky, wind on his face and the taste of life. It was hard keeping an alliance. In the North, every step forward meant taking two backwards. The lands weren't united and as soon something grew and floorished it was either conquered or crushed. He and his wife had but a small village to take care of and some expert and strong soldiers who followed them. As it started to thrive they looked upon near territories to take control of and expanded. However, Toresius and Jolfriga fell victim of other dragon's envy and were betrayed by dragons they deemed close. Even if they fought back, it was for naught, Toresius was caught while Jolfriga flew away with the rest of their soldiers. He knew she would never give up trying to find him, he would have done the same. As the days passed many his mind was either plagued by the wish for revenge, doing right to those who wronged him; or filled with longing for what he loved most, his mate, his friends and the few fellow soldiers. How were they now in the lands with all that mess? Days blended in. Was it summer? Winter? Spring? Nothing. His mind was trapped in constant turmoil, and the fleeting moments of peace were spent in complete emptiness. But as good things end, so do bad ones. The guards were killed. His eyes flooded with tears as he recognized, first the soldier who broke him free and behind him, his loved wife, sword and shield in hands, stained in blood, bruises and battle breath. As soon Toresius embraced her and had again a sword on his hands he fought, breathing life and hope into his lungs again in the battlefield. None survived under his rage. His revenge came with such anger that tales are told of this day. It took time for him to adjust to the new reality. His time in prison left a scar on him, but Toresius wasn't one to talk about it, and while he does not show trauma, Jolfriga and his closest allies know better. Through all his pain and his years lost, he found the strenght to become one of the best Earls in Yggerhall. Life was different, but, he knew that for Jolfriga wasn't someone to bend her knew to any dragon, so he had to trust when she made the choice to follow, not lead. He soon understood his mate made the best decision. Their land was thriving, their clan was strong. Their soldiers sang songs of each battle won; on their own, with Besart's armies on their side, with Toresius and Jolfriga marching with them. For heavens and Gods, she was alive by his side! She was the breath of life that filled his lungs. Lore writen by me, edited by Mudy Jolfriga Earl of Sigvard, Jolfriga's loyalties didn't always belong to King Khelgaro and Queen Nozette of the Besart Empire. When her husband Toresius was taken prisoner by dragons they deemed friends, Jolfriga knew she had no time to weep for her losses. Taking up arms to get him back by any means necessary, she swore to find and free her beloved even if it cost her everything. For days on end Jolfriga fought a battle, just right another battle while runing out and trying to survive to one day get her husband back Jolfriga ended in a siege against Nozette and Khelgaro. She could never have won, standing tall amidst the siege. Her will to get her husband back was as strong as any force that could be mustered against her, Jolfriga's unending loyalty to her husband and soldiers did not pass without notice. Having seen the nocturne willingness to die if it meant freeing her husband, Nozette threw down her weapon; an action that created a lasting peace between them. A test was upon her, to join the queen in a fight on a near territory and prove herself worthy of the queen's help or to die. Death was not an option, Jolfriga saw how Nozette was strong and so she aided her. Days passed, a short time together conquering and raiding and a friendship between them grew. Jolfriga started to notice what Nozette was doing and saw that her ideals and what she wanted was right and maybe the best for the whole country. She bent her knee and after some battles all of them raided to where Toresius was. Shield and sword in hands, for him. Now reunited with her beloved Toresius, Jolfriga has become a close friend and loyal ally of the queen. Both grateful for her help. Jolfrigra would never act against her loyalties to the King and Queen despite Toresius's early opposition to such loyalties. A proud warrior and caring leader, Jolfriga's love of her husband finds itself to be more private than her worry for her people. Though at times her neutral expression can mask her care, her soldiers know well that the Earl of Sigvard is nowhere near as cold as the winters she adores. For a brief moment in her life she had that with her father and mother. By then, Vitserk was just about a small village in the midlands, constantly plagued by Beastclans. Many wars, many battles between cities, villagers, towns. The whole country, if it could be called country by that time, was a mess from north to south. When her parents passed away, she was raised by her auntie, who taught her how to fight, wether she wanted to or not. Under her wings, Vanhild needed to learn how to fight and had to obey her. They didn't have a good relationship as her auntie lived through more bad times than good times, which made her a harsh dragon, but it was the only and sole family figure she knew, so how could she abandon that dragon? She couldn't. She lived through many years through this toxic relationship with her only family and peaceful days were but a distant memory to a yet young Vanhild. When the war ecloded near where they lived the two fought to defend their house, but unfortunately lost. Her auntie went mad and started to blame her niece for everything: the bad fight, the lost home, and for each step taken on their journey to flee. Her auntie blamed her for all their misfortunes. *** They needed to cross the borders of their land and escape. Their journey took them to the north of the midlands. Vanhild missed the warm weather, she missed peace. What could Vanhild do to her own kind? Her young mind was tormented day and night and her auntie was mad. As her mind was lost to their own worries, she failed to notice the ambush, too late noticing the taste of earth on her mouth. An unknown dragon pinned her down and her head spinned from the hit on her head. Her weapons were taken from her, and soon outnumbered and on her knees she felt it, the tight leather suffocating her. The leash that would accompany her for years tied with words forever craved in her memory. "I'm paying my pass with her, take her, she's no use to me" The shock was too much for her, tears came down her face, and she begged for mercy, pity, salvation. To her shock, the claws of her auntie held her face tight. "You're your own problem now." *** Days were cold in the north of the midlands. She was close to the great north. Sold as a slave, her fighting skills were now used for combat of a clan leader ruling that land. The place thrived for some time and was the biggest and stronged in the country. But the clan leaders weren't that good. They were not doing the needed job of keeping the surrounding cities neither at bay nor under control. There was no unified power on the region and under her eyes, the clan would not prosper if measures weren't taken. Vanhild alone wans't going to do that, Vanhild alone couldn't do that. The leash on her neck was a reminder that her life didn't belong to herself, she was but an object to be used in battles. Vanhild never had the courage of a bigger step in her life, after all tragedy that befell her. All she could do was keep fighting. Battles where good but bad. She was good at figthing, and her skills were refined over the years; but battle under someone's order wasn't worth, she thought that fake battles, not following a worthy leader were nothing. She thought of herself unworthy of the great halls of the gods for the fallen warriors. The singing maidens would not even come for her. For years, her mind was blank in the battlefield. Until the sound of thunder woke her up. Soaring in the skies was a wildclaw with the very thunder by her side. In her skin, goldenrod, turquoise, axe, hammer, sword, shield, and bruises met as enemies fell to the ground. Vanhild remembers that day for singing maidens would bent their knee to that dragon, who was like the elements themselves had taken shape in the battlefield. "Rise!" Thunder commanded and so Vanhild did it, like a moth to a flame, as the jolt of electricity flaring from the wildclaw's wings could breath life into her lungs again, bringing the wind inside her to life again. That was but just the first battle by Nozette' side. Soon Vanhild noticed that Nozette spent more time with leaders, snakes and alikes then in the battlefield. The more Vanhild questioned herself the more she started to learn about Nozette. That wildclaw could do it. She could do it! After years of hopeless longing, Vanhild made the decision that Nozette would have her help as she did it. Vanhild took her destiny on her hands. Gathered all of the soldiers she could and all of the slaves who longed to follow her. Wind was anew inside her and she had to do it. Vanhild's Fleet joined forces with Nozette and finally, the wildclaw knew it was just a matter of time. The coup came, the leader was killed and a Queen was born that day. Under Nozette's rule, there would be no more leashes on dragons, they were free to go, but every one of them choose to stay, for Nozette promised better days and battle glory. They chose their Queen and they chose Besart. From that day on, the friendship between the two only grew stronger. Vanhild became a dear friend to Nozette. *** The Midlands were just the first region Queen Nozette and King Khelgaro conquered. While suspicious at first and ready to jump at Khelgaro's throat on any given sign that he would betray her Queen, Vanhild eventually learned Khelgaro completed Nozette with his own skills and had goals so similar to theirs. He wasnt that bad, although Vanhild always thought he had more guts than brains. Battles were fought by their side and when all of the Midlands where conquered, Nozette offered to Vanhild the title of first earl, giving her the choice of where she wanted to reign in the name of the Queen. Vanhild chose her homeland and with Nozette's approval the midlands were renamed Vitserk. The name of her village was now the name of a whole region belonging to the new Besart Empire. Nozette, Khelgaro, the warriors and shieldmaidens; that was the family she chose. She was once again in Vitserk, finally to stay. She once more had her spring dream, the hydrangeas, the spring night sky and all the good memories, only the good memories. *** The Midlands were just the first region for Nozette to conquer, she and her partner by that time Khelagaro. At first Vanhild was a bit unsure about Khelagaro and was ready to jump at his troat at any sign that he would harm Nozette, it took time, but Vanhild realized that Khelgaro had what was best for Nozette that time and she saw that he had goals so similar to her, he wasnt that bad, maybe just had more guts than brains in her opinion. Earls

Toresius
58182342_350.png

The cold cell floor was worse than facing the cold outside, the mountains or even the river or sea, but he would not bend to these, he was from the north.

Jolfriga

59499744_350.png

Earl of Sigvard, Jolfriga's loyalties didn't always belong to King Khelgaro and Queen Nozette of the Besart Empire.

Vanhild
27588527_350.png

A dream of spring.

She dreamt about the hydrangeas; about the midlands, its weather and the summer starry sky, the trees, the fruits and good days.

***

They needed to cross the borders of their land and escape.

"I'm paying my pass with her, take her, she's no use to me"

The shock was too much for her, tears came down her face, and she begged for mercy, pity, salvation. To her shock, the claws of her auntie held her face tight.

"You're your own problem now."

***

Days were cold in the north of the midlands.

"Rise!"

Thunder commanded and so Vanhild did it, like a moth to a flame, as the jolt of electricity flaring from the wildclaw's wings could breath life into her lungs again, bringing the wind inside her to life again.

***

The Midlands were just the first region Queen Nozette and King Khelgaro conquered.

***

The Midlands were just the first region for Nozette to conquer, she and her partner by that time Khelagaro.
