Making breeding pairs of primals of each element - write lore for each. (Canon lore for banescales dictates that they feel an urge to dissipate once a dozen breeding pairs are cohabiting - still working out exactly how that will play out.) 2. Aim to use each banescale gene at least once, anticipating new genes to be released during the project (hoping for Runes before Starfall Celebration!) [i]note: we got underbelly, still waiting on runes![/i] 3. Aim for 50/50 gene probability in hatchlings (This aim was decided after the first couple of pairs were completed, and is not binding - but reasons should be given for departing from 50/50 ratios) 4. Aim for element appropriate genes/colors. 5. Bonus aim: hatch a primal from the primal parents :) (maybe this will continue until I get a primal of each element...) I chose filigree from the gem genes available to match Valygar's gem tert and because it seemed to help the Fire primal eyes pop the most out of all the gem tert options. Filigree, being fine metalworking, seemed appropriate for Fire. Trail threw complimentary highlights, these banescale genes really make a lot of color combos work if you put the time into the scrying workshop. Ice @Katzkrieg This fella is perhaps a strange color choice for Ice, given I like to pick elemental colors when possible. [url=https://flightrising.com/main.php?dragon=57315807] [img]https://flightrising.com/rendern/350/573159/57315807_350.png[/img] [/url] Jormund was a hatch from Katzkrieg's lore forum I am following, her [url=https://www1.flightrising.com/forums/qnc/2770116/1#post_41071527]100 Hatchling Challenge[/url]: she has a feisty guardian [url=https://flightrising.com/main.php?p=view&id=493553&tab=dragon&did=56108161]Khaluesh[/url] who keeps taking a different mate each breeding cycle, much to the chagrin of her clan who have recently caused her to flee from the Southern Icelands after Crystalline Gala. Jormund had returned to his homeland with his mate Iclyn (below) to 'tie the knot' so to speak and hatched his own eggs there too, and urged his mother to return to the Sunbeam Ruins with him for her own safety. She then followed him to Trickmurk Circus as Jormund's clan began the long trek to Dragonhome where the clan has relocated to. He wonders just where she has got to now... he hasn't heard from her in a while! I was really hoping to use crackle for Ice, but a) Katzkrieg wasn't a fan, b) it didn't really suit Jormund's colors, and c) Iclyn had Porcupine (resembles icicles) so he took a tert of similar rarity. I had been dying to use a Squiggle anyway and his horns match his wings now! Skink throws tones like looking through an ice sculpture and Trail had nice pink highlights to match her tert (rather than all the other secondaries which had beige in them). Shadow Somethign happened here... I made two pairs! The first was my self hatched XXX Shadow primal Mohanjot [url=https://flightrising.com/main.php?dragon=55921954] [img]https://flightrising.com/rendern/350/559220/55921954_350.png[/img] [/url] and the mate I found for him, Melaina. [url=https://flightrising.com/main.php?dragon=58820678] [img]https://flightrising.com/rendern/350/588207/58820678_350.png[/img] [/url] I really wanted Rosette for Mohanjot for those deep shadow tones but couldn't find an equal rarity gene that worked on Melaina. Upon consulting with my wife, Melaina won out with Petals and Butterfly - her beauty won us all over, (Mohanjot included) and so Mohanjot compromised with Alloy. I didn't want too shiny a shadow dragon but figured the crackle broke it up enough. However I ran into a logjam of compromises trying to find any of the fun combos of each that fit with my favorite combos of the other. Wind I don't know how or why but I made three pairs for Mistral Jamboree. If this keeps up I'll hit my dozen breeding pairs far too soon! ....and finally I'm doing it. Can't remember what order I did my pairs in so here we go willy-nilly... ----- BONUS ROUND: This boy showed up as a cheap* hatchling on AH with the same genes as the pair I was gening at the time... he wasn't RTB for MJ so he's under our wing for the moment and possibly here to find a home if anyone's interested? Water Finally I got to change and gene my water boy Uni!!! He's been a favourite ever since I scried him. Uni means sea urchin in Japanese, quite the delicacy in sushi restaurants but I think this boy might bight back a little more ;) I chose Laced for teh resemblance to scales, Toxin for the resemblance to dappled light through water onto the ocean floor, and Porcupine for its resemblance to... yep - sea urchin :) [url=https://flightrising.com/main.php?dragon=57687507] [img]https://flightrising.com/rendern/350/576876/57687507_350.png[/img] [/url] His mate is partially gened - I'm in a quandary for her primary. I really love Poison on her but I'm trying to get pairs to breed with 50% probabliity of each gene where possible. This has resulted in a lot of compromises (like most relationships) but I'm not sure I can compromise on this one! Marble is good, but I've used it a few times already and Poison just looks... better IMHO - so I may be headed for an 85/15% ratio for primaries this time around! (The previous posts all have complete breeding (bred) pairs, complete with progeny - I'll get to them in a moment) ----- 5th April update: Second pair scried, acquired and gened, named Aerwyna I found a mate for the guardian primal so I breedchanged her and gened her. Poison, Toxin, Fans. A bit of a gene repeat from teh last pair but they're just such watery genes! The bronze reminded me of a shipwreck, underwater bronze patinas etc, so I tried to work with that. He was triple gened, (Ragged Tear Skeletal iirc) Skink and Spinner got the glossiest finish I could get for a bronze patina effect, I guess I'll put fans on to match Aerwyna. (Wraith looks great but seems not very watery, Plumage seems too airy unless he's mainly land/air based on the water's edge, Filigree? seems unrelated) or perhaps not? It kinda emphasises his eyes and makes watery silhouettes down his neck. With their combined terts being through those pruply hues it just might work well n any offspring that get it... He looks ok with skeletal but it doesn't match her tert rarity and I'm playing around with skeletal a lot for my nature and plague pairs (maybe a romeo and juliet (Liefa and Garote) plague/nature pair coming too let's see... maybe banescale Liefa and Garote fandergs, how do i do that I wonder?)
