Ever wanted to bring a piece of the New World home with you? Now you can! Take a look at the creatures we have to offer. They get more dangerous as the regions get wilder, so be careful. Most of these beasts are direct offspring of captured specimens (G2), but we have some more...generationally domesticated options available (G3+), which we'll be sure to specifically call out. She took care of nests and hatchlings, both hers and others', and found an eventual partner - another Fae, like herself, but a little larger. But one day, she and her mate both fell into a long, deep slumber. It held them for night after night, week after week, month after month, until it seemed like they might never awaken. Awaken they did, though - and not where they fell asleep. Ilya found herself on a beach, looking up at the stars of a sky undisturbed by the lights of civilization, progress, other life. She stirred, stretched her wings, and looked around at the sand beneath her body - sand that almost matched her scales and skin. From the corner of her eye, she saw a fire on that quiet beach, a fire untended by anyone, leaping and dancing beneath the stars, its gleaming light reflecting in the water lapping at the pale sand. She crawled over, forgetting briefly the use of her wings, for it had been so very long since she'd flown. When she got close enough, she saw something shining within the fire - a glowing coal, shimmering with magic and power. She might have cried out - she never could recall. She closed her eyes against the invasive sensation, and when she opened them, she found herself...different. Larger, covered in fluffy fur, with wings like a butterfly's, and with a new pair of limbs. She had been transformed into something different, and the dragon staring back at her when she looked into the ocean's surface was not the one she remembered. She sat by the fire and stared between it, the glowing coal at its core, and the ocean until her mate awoke and joined her. She watched, almost impassively, as he too touched the smoldering coal, and his body changed as well - but she noticed something new with his transformation. Runes and symbols flew around him like friendly little sprites, dancing and shimmering in the air, connected by lines of magic as they swirled around his wings. He noticed the same with her, and almost as one, each reached out and touched the other's runes. Visions appeared before each - new places, new people, landscapes they had never seen. Ilya recoiled, and Ruyshkan reached for the symbol he'd touched again as it danced out of place. They met one another's eyes, wide and wondering. Then, hesitant and curious, they tried again - touching their own runes, not the other's. This time, the visions were different, and it was Ruyshkan who made the discovery that he could pass through the vision so long as he held contact with the rune. Ilya experimented too, popping through a vision of a cold, snowy place and finding herself on a frozen mountainside. When the pair rejoined on the beach, having each independently discovered a rune that stayed static which they dubbed "home", they shared all that they had learned.[/columns] [columns]It seemed they couldn't go back to their original lair anymore - but both dragons found they didn't particularly mind. They liked their new beach, with the fire that never went out, whose smoldering embers had transformed them. They wanted to find their old companions, of course, but that would take time. For now...they would make the best of it. They would live there, they would learn of their new capabilities, and they would try to understand what this place was, and why they'd found themselves there. Hatchlings from this pairing manifest the same runes as their parents, and often have a penchant for some degree of teleportation. That can reveal itself as brief hopping across space to dodge an attack, reach something high without that extra wing flap, or even zipping across the finish line in a race they were about to lose. This talent can also lend itself to something larger, with the ability to flit between flights and distant lands - but always with the ability to come Home, wherever they may find it, at the end of the day. As simple as they may be, I'm fond of them; they make some cute little Boggy babies. Preferring to stick to the swampier parts of the Ancient Forest, these lizard-like dragons primarily target weaker prey and travel in familial groups consisting of a breeding pair and a collection of their offspring, siblings, and even older family members. Their name came from a rather superstitious Hunter spotting one with pale skull-like markings over its head and believing it to be a sign of druidic activity in the area. For some time after, these creatures were tracked in an effort to find the civilization which had harnessed them. The brilliance of their coats often dazzle the eyes of onlookers - and this is not an accidental trait. Sunspots use the reflective properties of their fur to stun prey and predators alike and strike while their targets are confused and dazzled. They were one of those really early Gaoler pairs out on the site, when we were all reeling about ancient dragons even being a thing! They're probably going to get a little bit of gene tweaking as I settle back in, now that there are a lot more options available for Gaoler genes (including some more feline ones too!). Their secondary and tertiary ranges are near-misses for overlap, so I've acquired a new female who is in process of being gened/scrolled to add into the breeding mix who allows the possibility of XYY offspring. These Gaolers, dubbed Snow Kittens by those who've seen the way their cubs roll and tumble on the hillsides of their home range, were once deemed an ill omen. Some still think they are, if spotted out and about, and they may be right...but those dragons who have found favor with them swear they're the opposite. In their native habitat within the Hoarfrost Reach, these rambunctious predators prefer an ambush style of hunting. Their wintry coats allow them to blend into the snow and ice, with the patches of brown serving to mimic bare earth and dead plant life. In warmer conditions, their coats may shift color, favoring earthier tones to blend with their new environment. If not given proper stimulation and enrichment, Snow Kittens will find ways to entertain themselves. Those methods of amusement range from the benign to the dangerous, so it is generally recommended to keep them occupied.
