CARNASSUS

SHE / ITS | FEMALE

. Carnassus—the name is whispered through the Blightheart Legion like the rustling of dead leaves, a name that carries no past, no history. She simply appeared, a specter moving through the Wandering Contagion’s mists, its silent form trailing Wendeer as if guided by some unseen force. None had seen it before. None knew from where it had come. But the day she followed Wendeer into the founder’s cave, her fate was sealed. It was the happiest day of her life.
. Carnassus does not speak often. When it does, it is in a language that twists unnaturally, syllables bending and breaking in ways that claw at the mind. It is not meant for mortal ears. The first time she spoke, a lesser Legion member convulsed at the sound, their body rejecting what should not be understood. The words it murmurs are not meant for this world—they are prayers, chants, whispers of something ancient and raw.
. Like Wendeer, it is bound to the Plaguebringer, but her devotion is different. It is not loud or demanding. It is the quiet acceptance of rot’s embrace, of flesh meant to be broken down, reshaped, reborn. When she moves, it is with eerie grace, its feathered body drifting through the haze like a wraith, her tattered wings carrying the scent of damp soil and decay.
. No one questions her presence. They do not need to. Carnassus does not seek approval, nor does it offer explanations. She exists within the Blightheart Legion as if it had always been there, her silent, watching gaze a constant in the shadows. And when the time comes for her voice to be heard again—when the weight of its tongues coils through the air like smoke—none will know whether it is prophecy or doom that spills from her lips.

. The air is damp, thick with the scent of rot and something faintly metallic. A faint rustling fills the silence—not the sound of wind, nor the scuttling of insects, but something slower, more deliberate. Then, you see her.
. Carnassus stands motionless in the gloom, head tilted at an unnatural angle, her wings hanging like a tattered shroud. Her eyes, pale and unfocused, settle on you with an intensity that feels almost wrong. For a long moment, she simply watches.

Then—sound.

. A low murmur slithers from her throat, words coiling together like writhing things, slipping just out of comprehension. The cadence is hypnotic, lilting, both soothing and deeply, deeply unsettling. The longer you listen, the more your mind strains against it, grasping at meaning that refuses to take shape.
. Carnassus takes a slow step forward, the glow of distant spores catching in the tattered edges of her feathers. The whispering does not stop. If anything, it grows softer, as if spoken just beneath your skin, vibrating in your bones.
Then, she stops. Silence. Her head tilts further, considering.
. And without another sound, without even a rustle of her wings, she vanishes into the haze. The words linger long after she is gone.
