Optimist | Courier of the Toxic Wastes | Hunter

Nex is the Toxic Wastes' proud courier, eagerly taking and delivering packages of all kinds to and from her clanmates. Most of her work is between allied or neighboring clans, though on occasion she is sent farther to do trade with strangers or to gather things from the Trading Post. She greatly admires Edgar, Pearl, and Spitfire, and aspires to be like them someday. When not doing courier work, she hunts food for the clan or lounges about with her clanmates, making friends and telling stories. She often tries to spend time with her son, Siluet, but as the clan Spymaster and a dapper dragon who is embarrassed by his mother, he usually doesn't have the time. Not that Nex minds - she finds time anyway.

"Snuffles" - Nex's companion Toridae - is an unruly, demanding beast who only seems to have respect for Nex, and even then it's not very much. She adores him anyway and spoils him with treats and toys of all kinds that she finds across the Wastes and beyond. Most dragons in the Toxic Wastes have learned to build their dens high, thanks to Snuffles rooting out any valuable objects he can find and chewing them to pieces.

Backstory

Nex was born to two dragons with little interest in one another, and was quickly abandoned by both as soon as she was old enough to fend for herself. By some miracle of luck, she stumbled her way into the Toxic Wastes - a good while from where she had hatched - and was quickly accepted by Andiron and the others.

As a juvenile dragon, Nex had few ideas about what she wanted to do with herself, and spent more time playing pretend than actually training to do anything useful. When the time came to start helping out, she easily learned how to properly hunt, but still couldn't settle on an actual occupation.

Sometime around when she gained Snuffles, Nex decided she wanted to be a pirate, and set off for the waters between the Scarred Wasteland and the Southern Icefields. Her poorly-constructed ship was destroyed in only a manner of days by the creatures living in the water, and she reluctantly headed home, unsure of what to do with herself. Along the way she managed to run into Pearl, and after the small dragon had flown off to complete her next delivery, Nex had decided what she was truly destined to be.

Surprisingly, being a courier has worked out well, and Nex is trusted with goods and trades of all kinds without hesitation. Sometimes she still thinks about being a pirate, but ultimately, she prefers the skies.
