A light egg at birth, but when his family joined a layer in the Earth Kingdom, his hatchling years were filled with struggling in the turmoil of beast clan battles. The clan moved to what seemed to be a safe haven, the greenery lush, and a gentle and warm breeze wafting down from the north. For ten years, Dailu was raised in the comforts of the sheltered oasis, food plentiful and surrounded by his fellow fae.

Little could they know, it was the territory of the Gladekeeper, a strip claimed between shadow and earth, and the Plaguebringer was taking it back.

Her exalted warriors charged the green, poison and disease rotting the trees as dragons lay waste to all in her path. Dailu, age 15, untrained and unskilled, tried to fight among the few remaining warriors of his flock. But simply pitted against one of Plaguebringer's men, the young dragon was easily overwhelmed. The rotting best took rope from a bucket in the well, tying a stone to Dailu's belly, and laughed as the teen screamed and cried out before being dropped down to the waters below.

Down and down, he sunk, quickly descending into the dark. Too tired to fight, let alone claw to the surface, the rock took him to the floor before he'd even lost his breath. An underground river, swiftly streaming beneath the solid stone ripped the fae from his bindings, pulling him beneath the earth as if through a straw. It was to his dismay that he awoke again, alive.

Green, pastel luminescence lit the cavern before him. Glowing moss dripped with cold water in every crack in the ceiling and upper cobble stone walls, bones lain carefully in shelf after shelf around the room. He was washed into a crypt. Ancient bones where all that kept him company as he padded, lost and confused, through the labyrinth carved in stone. Terrified at first, for his family somewhere above. But as day after day passed, and still no sign of escape, just room after wretched room of moss, stone and bone, Dailu couldn't even find the river that had brought him here. The small, starving fae wandered helplessly, crying out only to hear his own echo begging for someone. Anyone...

Vision blurred and faded, Dailu felt something pulling him. It felt like sunlight on his skin, smelled of fresh dinner at home, a loving voice, a warm embrace and escape from these halls. Dailu didn't know what it was, but he didn't care. Only to find... A dead end. And a crystal. Sobbing and manic, the young fae attacked the crystal, screaming and crying for his loss. Tricked! He was tricked! He was going to starve in here! Alone!

Devouring the stone in his fit of pained rage, it was to his agony that this concentrated gem of shade overtook him, crystallizing in his chest and breaking from his skin to expose the deathly crystal of shade to the air again. Dailu doesn't remember when he fell unconscious, only that he awoke in the care of the Tsunami Flats, chest bound as if it were a mere wound in the hands of a friendly lesser lair of the Water Kingdom.

It's been 325 years and counting since that faithful day, the shade crystal keeping him alive and young as he was at 15. The stone has given him an untested wealth of magic, at the price of his sanity. He tries to keep it hidden at all costs. Roaming all of Sornieth, Dailu has spent the last three centuries lifting the spirits of all caught in tragedy. Traveling to calamities and managing to help the children play again, the adults laugh again, even after their homes, lives and families lay in ruin around them. Dailu doesn't understand the love the families generations later continue to feel for him. But in every kingdom, he's an old family friend to more and more of the once unfortunate.

Now, with Zaire at his side, he can experience the happiness he's neglected for himself for all these years. The gods have given this to him... Maybe, this will last. After all he had given to the world, perhaps it will give something back.

Assuming dragon kind doesn't realize the power he holds in his chest, and take it for their own instead.
