Votive realized at a fairly young age that her magic works on herself. This was after a few lessons on how vital fear is, and how removing it completely is both a blessing and a curse in and of itself, regardless of whatever gifts her mother’s petitioners get out of it. So she stopped helping other people, because her skillset comes with more complications for them than not, and she starts fueling her own magic with her own fear. This, not surprisingly, gets her into a lot of fights nowadays. But the less often she’s scared, the harder it hits when she realizes she really is in over her head, and the more of a boost her magic gets from that raw emotion to get her out of the situation - so she’s learned nothing, and will continue to learn nothing going forward.
