DRONE

Dragonlike creatures with black chitin in place of scales, who move as though possessed. Drones are not sentient, they are not sapient, and they can barely be considered alive. They are disposable workers, who serve under the control of a rogue consciousness that treats them less like living beings and more like extensions of its own body. A consciousness is the brain, and its drones are the muscle, the sinew, the churning innards.

MUTANT DRONES

In-game, drones who have developed a tertiary. Tertiary genes have many, many possibilities, and there are some hives who have explicitly experimented with their drones to force them to hatch with beneficial tertiaries to make the hive’s workings smoother and more efficient. More purist hives may shun the idea of mutant drones, and terminate them or otherwise banish them from the hive.
