Biography
MATED TO TESSEN
Prende (P(ë)rende) - pagan Albanian goddess of the dawn, love, beauty, fertility, health & protection of women. Daughter of Zojz, the sky and lightning god. Also called Afërdita (cognate with Aphrodite) meaning dawn, associated with the planet Venus. The theonyms also trace back to the Indo-European pers-é-bʰ(h₂)n̥t-ih₂ ("she who brings the light through") aka Persephone.
Prende's festival was celebrated on July 26 every year, and her devotees would don beautiful clothing and would set out a mortar and pestle as a representation of reproductive union. Prende rides across the sky in a chariot pulled by swallows, connected by the rainbow which is called 'the Lady's belt'. Oral legend has it that anyone who jumps over the rainbow changes their sex.
