Biography
So pretty! 150G (ow.) But so pretty!
MATED TO PERENDE
Although a Sandsurge, one of the ancient breeds which cannot intermingle, Tessen's lineage harks back to modern breeds, primarily Coatls. Her mother Mocha came from Coatl and Pearlcatcher parents; her father Chestnut was hatched in the Windswept Farmlands, a region known for its piebald cattle ranching 'cowtls'. Some great romantic mystery surrounds the circumstances which transformed these two, but clearly their pairing is blessed by the deities.
Tessen has two Sandsurge brothers from the same nest, Apera and Velvet, and one older brother Proteus from their parents' first nest together (her mother's first offspring, but her father had mated several different dragons before his change; all offspring from those pairings have now gone to the gods).
The Japanese war fan, or tessen (Japanese: 鉄扇,てっせん, lit. '"iron fan"'), is a hand fan used as a weapon or for signalling. Several types of war fans were used by the samurai class of feudal Japan and each had a different look and purpose. One of the most significant uses was as a signalling device to direct soldiers in battle, but samurai could take these fans to places where swords or other overt weapons were not allowed, and some swordsmanship schools included training in the use of the tessen as a weapon (tessenjutsu). The tessen was also used for fending off knives and darts, as a throwing weapon, and as an aid in swimming.
