While many people might be initially intimidated by Hanako’s straight-faced demeanour and the large, obvious scar stretched across his face, many learn that he’s not quite so menacing once they realise that Hanako doesn’t mean to be… Well, mean. He just has some trouble expressing and reading emotions like many others in the village are.

It’s not a recent development, either. Those growing up with Hanako could vouch that he had conducted himself in such a manner since he was a young child, rarely ever able to read between the lines and always taking every word quite literally. Consequently, if Hanako mentions something, even just in passing, one can be certain that he’ll hold true and certain to that statement, no matter what it might be.

While this made it rather hard for Hanako to get over the initial hurdle to forge many social bonds, most people came to appreciate Hanako’s straightforwardness and honesty, even if they sometimes wished he could frame his words in a less insensitive manner. Ultimately, Hanako’s sheer determination and will when it came to seeing words and actions through to their ends works to his benefit as a maid at the Restkeep Tavern.

Even though few would consider his role at the tavern anything important or prestigious, Hanako tends to his duties with the care and precision one would expect from a nuclear analyst (had they existed at this period of time). His diligence and meticulousness in his works means that nothing escapes his attention, which is a nice contrast when compared with Akako’s more laid back and relaxed demeanour.
