"Wary should you be, of any being just a touch too odd to be real."
The creature is a deer- at least at first glance, right? There is clearly something wrong about it. Almost everything about this thing is wrong. But a deer is the only thing that comes to mind when one tries to describe it. The “Not Deer” is a bit of urban Americana from the Appalachian region. Many people have had incidences where they find themselves, many times alone, in the wilderness or driving home & cross paths with a deer. Or at least what looks like a deer from a distance. Upon closer inspection, people have found that the proportions are simply off. Several first-hand descriptions have included there being “more or less joints” than their should have been, with “proportions of a moose”, being “wildly disproportionate”, & having “forward-facing, predator eyes”. One witness described the experience as being “deeply unsettling” All reports have noted that this creature just ‘feels’ off, or that a sort of sentience is detectable. In a couple different cases, some form of “Not Deer” were said to have only two hind legs. In one of these cases, it had arms with hands in place of forelegs. Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD) is often brought up as an explanation to these kinds of occurrences. CWD causes the severe deterioration of a deer’s mind & body & can result in obscure behavior, & ultimately death. Those who have seen deer with this condition & the Not Deer are adamant about these being completely different things. |
The workshop was dimly lit by the full moon overhead. Three eggs are nestled in a makeshift nest. Armature had meticulously placed them as realistically as possible without damaging the eggs – it’s very rare for eggs like these to preserve so perfectly without rotting. Most would be curious as to how these eggs came into their possession; they weren’t her eggs. She found them near her greatest possession; her large taxidermy of a great wolf! She spent months fixing him up. Cleaning the dried blood, straightening his face and spine. Whoever put him together; shame! And now he is at his full glory; large, powerful-looking, practically lifelike. He was her crown jewel after all. There was a mysterious knock on the door. When she opened it, 3 bodies were at her step. This was not unusual. Hunters sometimes give her trophies as payment for allowing them to hunt around her home forest. However, a sickly male nocturne was not what she expected amongst a vixen and doe corpse. She sighed and sent for a clan healer. The other two, she placed at the foot of her beloved wolf to begin working them. Armature after finishing the vixen turned to the poor doe. She was also very skinny-looking but not as severely as the vixen. She had very strange red markings down her back. Unusual, just like the vixen. Other than the stripes, her fur was fairly commonly colored but with a black tail which gave her a unique trait. She took her time giving her a proper body and posing her in a serene thought. When Armature added her eyes, it was as if the doe's eyes shined brighter, matching the Wolf's and Vixen's. When the young nocturne returned, after helping with the vixen, he helped mount the doe onto her resting place, standing on a board to mimic a meadow with preserved wildflowers and dried grasses, waiting for the right creature. And there she stood until a stranger entered the shop and asked to buy her. For the right amount of coins, she was sold and off to her new resting place. Though rumors have circulated of a ghostly doe with red stripes running around her new lands. An innocent spirit but a hidden trickster looking to preserve her new body.

- Takes the form of a giant Not Deer, with giant antlers and sharp teeth filling her mouth. Her legs have one too many joints for a deer, more similar to that of a brown wolf, but still has the coat of a deer nonetheless.
- A trickster, yes, but mostly innocent. Doe keeps to herself mostly, but will play pranks and scare those who are just a touch too prideful- and will hunt those who take too much, and those who hunt for pleasure instead of necessity.
