A standoffish Wildclaw. Though Phyress is part of the Rest's guard, she interacts very little with her colleagues. She prefers to do things her own way, in her own time. Hatched to a dynasty of gladiators, Phyress began training as soon as she could hold a practice sword. She picked up the techniques of the various weapons used in the gladiatorial rings of Light quickly, but not the showmanship required of a spectacle fighter. Though, once she made her debut, this worked in her favor. The crowds loved the change of pace a reserved, near-silent contender brought to the usually raucous and prideful sport, and Phyress gained quite a following. As she started forming friendships and rivalries with her fellow gladiators, she became romantically involved with another Wildclaw champion: the fighter known as the Sunbeam Rose. Their relationship lasted for many years, longer than other industry relationships, but they too were destined to fall. As it went on, both Phyress and Rose found themselves being consumed with a thirst for glory in the ring. Early on, this was a healthy competitive spirit that made matches between the two exciting, but it quickly grew out of control. When the pair were scheduled to face each other in the final match of a prestigious tournament, Phyress let her confidence get the better of her. She let Rose lure her into a false sense of security, and just when she made what she thought would be the final blow, Rose used it as an opportunity to grievously wound her and win the tournament. Enraged and disgraced, Phyress fled the Sunbeam Ruins, swearing to herself never to return. As many washed-up fighters do, Phyress signed on with the Traveler's Rest guard force. She doesn't take part in any of the team-building exercises set up by Rapier, or accept any of the friendly invitations to the Tattered Sail offered to her by her colleagues. She prefers to brood, pulverize targets in the training arena, and polish her trident a worrying amount. |
