NAME used to be a well-loved writing-quill. Sometimes he forgets what he is and thinks he’s a bird, and these new wings - incorporeal as they are - don’t help clear up the confusion any faster. Sometimes he forgets what he was, and thinks he’s a dragon. No one will remind him that he isn’t, if he goes somewhere new, and that feels both freeing and frightening. He needs to remember it: the ink, the scratch of quill-tip on paper, the feeling of air under the feathers he no longer has. He needs to hold onto these things.
