Prolific Scribbler | Transcriptionist | Brother | Pompous Windbag    ╭━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╮ "I long for that which is lost and cannot return." - UNDERTOW - ╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯ With a song in her heart and a fire in her eye, Undertow’s spirit burns brightly in Clan LockCharge. Still, it was not so long ago that she and her mate, Bulk, lived as adventurers. Seafarers with wings seeking after the edge of the world, they were brave in their daring and bold in their laughter. But the sea isn’t so kind to ones such as these, and the storm threw them awry. Paws that once reached for freedom were left shaking with pain, for she fell in love with the sea, with the wind as it whipped against her wings. Although the sea loves with cruelty, with harshness, and strife, Undertow would have stayed there forever, lost in its unforgiving embrace. Bulk swears she’s a siren abandoned on land by an unfaithful lover, but Undertow knows better. She began as a lady, regal and fair, but unkind times left her destitute. Trapped in a cage of poverty, she was set free by the drake who still holds her heart. With his ship and his smile and a love for the sea, Bulk won her over and whisked her away. For a time they were happy, but these things never last, and it wasn’t too long before sorrow came back. Her wings held an ache that never quite faded, and her head burned under the bright morning sun. The sea couldn’t compare with the ocean inside her, and the salt air she once loved seared with each breath. Unable to abide the suffering any longer, Undertow left the sea, but never her love. They dug up their treasure and hung up their swords, casting a last rueful look at the freedom they had. They settled down in a new place where the language was strange, and communication was done with letters on a page. They did their best, made their living as fishermen. Everyday she wades in the river, feeling the cool, clear water on her toes, and she can almost imagine that she’s free once more. The day’s catch leaves little time for dreaming, but at night, the two fall asleep to the song of the water outside their hut. But the quiet rush of a river is nothing like the sea, and she longs silently for the life she left behind. It’s her fault they left, her fault that they gave up their dreams, and she’ll never forget it. She was a free spirit in the cage of a failing body, and the sea has little mercy for the weak. But as she falls asleep each night with her head next to his, the song seems less tempting and life seems almost perfect for a moment or two. |
