Pirate | Fisherman | My Love    ╭━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╮ "What is lost is never forgotten." - BULK - ╰━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━╯ With wings to block out the sun and pale eyes that pierce the soul, Bulk is one of the most intimidating dragons in the clan. He served many years aboard a pirate ship, and it has given his stride an air of danger. Don’t look to close, the hatchlings whisper, he’s a dark and frightening stranger here. Little do they know how much of a stranger he truly is. He was once a humble sailor, but he fell in love with the sea, with the sun on the waves, and the salty sea air. And the love for the sea was nothing compared to the love for a siren, and in the end he chose and one, and the other left an aching emptiness in his heart. Undertow was a dragoness, fallen from grace, reduced to little more than a begger. She was a siren with a broken heart and nowhere to go. So he took her aboard his ship, spun away her tears, and sealed their fate with a vow. She was faithful to him, and he to her, but faith couldn’t save them from the storm that was brewing. When she got sick, he pleaded with all the powers that be that she would be spared. That the pain would stop, and they could go on laughing at danger and loving in spite of it. Yet as time passed, his siren’s song grew fainter, and he carried her up to the deck when her legs could support her no more. The sea withdrew her beauty and her kindness, and she spurned their love and their joy. In the end, the great tempest of life took their home and their hope, and it tossed them ashore in a great wide world. Bulk, Captain no more, took his siren to a new home where she could get well. Where plants and potions could keep pain at bay, where it could keep his love next to him a little longer. The sea was their enemy, now, but it was no less beautiful in its fury. It’s beauty was harsh and dangerous, but she was fragile and soft. He wanted both, but he knew that his love would always carry the sea inside her. It lived in her ferocity when she fought, in the nurturing hand she laid on their children, and in the fire that burned bright within her. They adapted, of course, learning the language of the Lightning Clan, although neither could master reading or writing. They fish in the rivers and streams and dream they catch a piece of themselves. At night, they huddle close in their hut, listening to the brook babble over the rocks, and wishing it was the crashing of waves on the cliffs. They long for the sea, and for all that was lost, for sirens and promises, but they still have each other and that’s all that matters. |
