As a strong Arcane dragon, Taxus is essentially unaffected by the warp. He strives to be everywhere, doing everything that needs doing—be it repairing damaged wards, helping the healers banish Arcane maladies from the afflicted, scouting, patrolling, or tending to other tasks being left undone, as well as making sure the clan stays abreast of developments happening elsewhere.

Taxus has been able to relax slightly as the Arcane warp has been steadily cleansed. He is intrigued by the proper news of the aether, and spends as much free time as he can learning of them.

Greenskeeper Gathering has come as a relief; Taxus has been out of Clanhome at various festivals, unwinding from the heavy workload.

An inveterate stargazer with a wanderlust to rival Plaguewinds's, Taxus is the clan's primary internal messenger. He is the one to be sent if one of the foragers has to be recalled suddenly, especially if a magical sending might go awry or be intercepted. When not on the job, he can usually be found by night in one of his high-up perches, watching the night sky, and by day sleeping in his den or keeping company with his clanmates as they work. If something happens in the clan, he is likely to be one of the first to know, and the first to spread it around the clan if necessary.

Previously a large and lanky nocturne, Taxus was transformed into a veilspun at during their initial reappearance after stumbling into a swarm for the second time. He still identifies more as a nocturne than a veilspun, though he has grown comfortable with Shorepine and Thrift, and more than that with Moonglow.

Taxus is generally well-liked, as he rarely picks fights or takes sides. He has a deep respect for Sprucetip, and will sometimes pick up territorial patrols on her direction. He and Henhowl occupy opposite ends of the news spectrum—Taxus with the small and local, Henhowl the far-away and Sornieth-wide—which has lent itself to a sort of friendly rivalry. He once had a strong friendship with his "siblings", Alkane, Arenite, and the now-absent Benzoin, whom unbeknownst to him has also been taken in by the Veilspun, but they are now far away and their friendship quite strained.

Craft
Taxus likes to paint nightscapes, and he sometimes collaborates with the clan's other artists to provide a background for their subjects. Like many other veilspun, he tends to collect bits and trinkets, though he seeks to temper this tendency by crafting his favorites into bangles and streamers that can be shared with the rest of the clan.

Physical description
Taxus is fairly long and lean, though overall average in size and proportions, and armored in nocturne-scales. His wings and mane give off a faint glow, and his hide is especially dark. He is excellent at climbing and even better at the typical hummingbird-flicker of a veilspun, though he is still hesitant and faltering on flat ground and a poor swimmer. He smells of sweet chemicals and faintly evergreens.

Combat
Taxus uses a combination of speed and dazzle to corral opponents, butting at weak-points with his horns and driving them into terrain obstacles. He keeps his allies humming with various beneficial enchantments, though he prefers not to fight alongside his fellow veilspun.

Origin
Taxus was hatched in Cindercone Clan as the wild nocturnes retreated back to their hideaways. Along with the other Ghosts, he suddenly spooked one day, convinced that Cindercone had been destroyed by a great storm, and darted off into the wilds. The Ghosts lived feral for several seasons, in contact with each other but rarely seen, until at last Spearmint found them by means of the semi-aquatic familiars of Alkane, Benzoin, and Arenite.

The Storm is presumed to have been some sort of foresight of the Crossing, though precisely how and why the Ghosts had such a vision remains mysterious.

During the emergence of the Veilspun, Taxus blundered into one of their enclaves—and not, it transpired for the first time. In payment for his repeated trespass, they inducted him into their own ranks.

Kin
Taxus has no known relatives, though there are rumors that he has a twin brother in another clan. He considers the other Ghosts his brothers and sister, particularly Arenite.

Elemental

In the winter, this elemental began accompanying Taxus, apparently desiring to impart some sort of wisdom to him. So far it is unclear what lesson this might be.

Taxus was previously bonded to a hainu called Little Sister. During the Crossing, he sent her to Northslope Clan bearing a message of the clan's plight. He has received word back, from the strange mirror Sarkan, that she is safe and healthy, but she has yet to return.
