Somber is a prodigy, which is a dangerous thing to be when it comes to this sort of thing. Even her fanatic mother has muttered once or twice about how someone can be too good at dark magic and the pursuit of profane knowledge. Suspiciously good at it. Geniuses like her are either shunned or fought over, and she’s worked very hard to be the latter. She’s wormed her way into being indispensable, and she’s working towards the kind of untouchability that comes with being the most powerful person in the room. She’s getting there fast.
