Blaire ran away from home as soon as he could. He’s clever, and capable, and careful most of all, so it was impossible for his mother and her strange ideas to follow him. But what he didn’t account for was the Spiral itself lingering on his trail. He doesn’t even have to try to follow his mother’s careful teachings - he doesn’t even reach for it before the openings between this world and the darkness leap to his clawtips, as if begging for him to enter. Begging him to come home.

He tries to look away, no matter how the darkness beckons. He knows no good will come of getting even the briefest glimpse into what may lay beyond that which ordinary dragons comprehend. But dreams are filled with whispered promises and temptations; he's awoken to find his paws set on some unknown path, even in the depths of slumber. Though he awakens before reaching whatever destination awaits, each journey seems longer than the last, each beckon more and more insistent and harder to ignore.

He's always been curious about the workings of the world, but that curiosity feels more inevitable curse than blessing these days, resolve to ignore temptation harder each time it opens.
