was born on sornieth well after the astrolab crashed, but grew up hearing tales of observing the outer reaches of space up close from ophiuchus. due to this, gravity has been obsessed with space for as long as she can remember. growing up in the starwood strand, her favourite activity as a hatchling was to sneak out of the lair at night, sometimes with her brother dyson, and fly to the very top of the tallest tree in the area to watch the stars and let her imagination run wild. [work this into an actual sentence later but ophiuchus had a telescope up there which is the same one in the observatory today]

on one of these late-night climbs, she met mycelium for the first time, as they coincidentally shared a favourite stargazing tree. the hatchlings felt a connection [academia interest? outcasts or otherwise feel disconnected from their home clan? we'll workshop it], and that first night became countless more, as they met almost every night to watch the stars and passionately discuss their studies.

over time, the two-person stargazing club expanded to a full friend group [gravity, mycelium, dyson, meteor, autumn, and arpeggio]. as adults [though they'd probably been discussing it for years prior as a wild pipe dream], they upgraded their base of operations from treehouse to fully-fledged lair, and became the founding members of the astral commune. now, gravity studies the movement and magic in the stars full-time, collaborating with researchers at the tourmaline archives to map out every last star in the cosmos in more detail than ever before.

gravity and mycelium have been girlfriends for some time now. love wins <3

other stuff
-has the stereotypical aether bubbly curiosity and passion, but trapped under a thick layer of shyness and hidden behind the ever-fruitless desire to appear Serious and Professional. her friends can get her to infodump excitedly, but around anyone else she'll notice she's rambling and hastily correct herself.
-also does the overcomplicated names thing, but is super embarrassed about it. gravity usually insists on calling things by their 'proper' names, but sometimes slips and calls a pencil a 'graphite-based marking implement' or something silly like that when she's worked up, which her friends utterly DELIGHT in playfully teasing her about.
-gravity's greatest dream as a hatchling was to go to space like her ancestors, but she's had to accept that that simply isn't possible with the technology sornieth currently has. it does genuinely break her heart a bit, but she's even more committed to studying the cosmos as a result - if she can't learn about the stars in person, she'll simply have to make up for the distance through spectroscopy, gravitational lensing, and arcane magic instead.
