In a library, one would expect to find books and scrolls on various topics and discoveries. Although, the most interesting item in this location is not an old tome, nor a hatchling’s tale, but rather a decorated diary dropped underneath a table in a dimly lit corner. Flipping through the pages reads: XX/XX/XXXX 01 one of the dragons in this place saw I had terrible memory and just gave me this book to write in. free stuff, I suppose, even if this isn’t what I was expecting. might as well go with it, obviously. you’re mine to write in. other than this starting statement, nothing else interesting happened. hopefully I stick with this format. XX/XX/XXXX 02 there’s been multiple rumors floating around apparently. one of the ones I’m most interested in is a statue nearby can grant your wish. it’s stupid and dumb but I might try to track how it happens and test it out myself. there’s also a different rumor about something dangerous, but I forgot the details. it won’t be important, anyways. XX/XX/XXXX 03 the sandsurge living in the same place seems to be the first one to have this may need more study to move on to the next stage, but I’m very tempted to just move on and try it. I need something to pray for though, something to wish for. I don’t have an idea yet. The diary- journal, at this point?- goes back to describing events that take place within the area, but flipping only a few pages further leads to a discovery. XX/XX/XXXX 09 I have it. a new dragon has settled down in this cursed port. they stated that they were attempting to find someone, and were here temporarily- unless something or someone convinced them to stay. they proceeded to then offer to play a game. gamble, too. they won each and every one. either they know of the statue, or they’re extremely lucky. I want to test that. with that, I’ll also test the statue - will it answer my prayers? if they’re also winning from the statue, will it go against their prayer too? I’ll ask them if they’ve seen the nearby statue, and then play a bit with them. next day, pray to win my next game, and then repeat one more time for results. XX/XX/XXXX 10 thank the Arcanist that I remembered to check here the day after. had a weird dream, thought something was roaming outside. was heavy. I don’t remember anything else. hopefully not a bad omen. will be carrying this around to track the other events today. — they don’t know. played fairly with them. lost each one. will try tomorrow. cheat this time, see how that affects the result. XX/XX/XXXX 11 it’s the next day. same dream occurred. I remember seeing the eyes. multiple of them. I don’t remember the color. please don’t let it be shadow eyes. — cheated this time. better result, but still lost by a landslide each time. they suggested that I should maybe stop. I declined. there’s still the statue. visiting and praying will happen today, following the sandsurge’s results. 1 win for tomorrow. the next day, hopefully several. XX/XX/XXXX 12 I felt like the dream became real. just for a moment, during the night, I swear the same thing came by. heavy, and maybe the same shape? couldn’t figure out the eyes. too dark. I remember the rumor of something dangerous roaming around. too mysterious for now. unsure about potential research into it. — I won. just the first game, but I won. it surprised the visiting dragon. the rest of the rounds went the same, lost each time, so far, but I won one game. that’s what matters. they mentioned they might stay if I can beat them a few more times, or get close to that result. — went to the statue again. prayed to win at least most of my attempts. tempted to spend the night to figure out how it works. don’t trust the dream last night to stay in my den. it’s alive attacked me can’t beat it can’t go back XX/XX/XXXX 13 above entry written after falling asleep. don’t remember writing it. felt more like a dream. there were no scars when I woke up, only a pounding headache. the statue is gone. — went back. appeared terrible. adjusted some of it before testing if the prayer worked. it did. each time felt awful, only adding to the headache. they’ll be staying. told me to take care of myself, though. was still terrible. someone has to do it though. XX/XX/XXXX 14 still haven’t recovered. taking this and a few more days easy. no more writing for a while. The next entry is a few days after the last, as promised. Although, it’s best to place this back where it was left. After all, it’s best to not let curiosity kill the cat. The owner will return, and the best choice is to not be caught snooping around someone’s belongings.
