P ebbles in the water, tumbled forever and yet only recently released from the constraints of the mud they are placed inside of.

The water is cold, and constantly moving through its path in the land. Clear and glistening in the light under the sun, the scene is almost like that from a dream. Slowly, the water runs over the rocks and mud that coat its bottom, yet no muck is stirred up.

At the bottom of the clear river are rocks, loosened from their hold in the earth and tumbled along the path the river takes. Smoothed, polished, and worn open to reveal the sparkling insides of their beauty- hidden beneath the casing of hard stone. These pebbles catch the light, and make the scene even more dream-like.

Upon picking up one of the pebbles, it can be held delicately between two claws. The sunlight catches on the sparkling insides and as the glare of the light blinds for a moment, the pebble shifts. Or, more so, the image of the world shifts, as in the sunbeam there is a swirling figure. Large, standing just out of sight, and yet the eyes can’t be torn away from the shimmering beauty of the beast’s scales. Or is it fur, held tight against the body because of the water that clings to it, that makes the beast shine as it does?

In a blink, the beast is gone, but there is a weight in the palm now. Not from the pebble, though that too is heavy in its own way…
