Lore
Young archeologists and explorers are not known for being careful, they are prone to mistakes, folly, and failure. such error can be quite deadly in the wake of old magic, magic even older than the twelve on occasion. such magic can even defy nature, and rouse the dead.
Mummies are among the most common awoken undead, usually by defiling their resting place in some way. The most common way a mummy is awoken is usually by stealing or ruining a prized artifact. Although there have been other instances of different variables contributing to waking a mummy.
A mummy's body, despite contrary belief, is actually alive, and functioning! The heart beat and blood flow is just slowed down to a fascinating degree. What mummies we have been able to study still eat, and drink, but not as often as a normal living being. The longer a mummy has been awake, the more 'Functional' its body becomes, healing embalming wounds with scars, and regenerating missing limbs and organs needed for prolonged function. The body doesn't wholly regenerate however, as any injuries acquired before death will remain as they had (amputated limbs for example). It is unknown if this is due to a mental block the mummy exhibits over its body, or if the regeneration is limited in this way. Regeneration also only does the bare minimum, as any body parts or functions not needed are either neglected or simply disappear from the body.
Mummies are usually feral beasts when the first awake, slowly gaining consciousness and will the longer they stay animated. Though this is not always the case, as some only gain partial consciousness, or simply none at all.
A 'Waker' is a person or creature that has caused a mummy to wake, and bears the brunt of its curse.
Wakers are either very dangerous individuals, or are individuals in a whole lot of danger. There have been rare cases of a Waker finding a way to pacify the awoken mummy and live peacefully or cause absolute havoc with the mummy and curse by their side.
But more times than not, a Waker is brutally killed by the rampaging undead, or the curse wrought upon them. A mummies curse is most typically a type of indefinite bad luck or suffering, although there have been documented cases of different curse outcomes, death is the most common.
Qualifications
Dehydrated Mummy: The standard mummy, they are commonly the most awoken, and arguably the most known to be discovered. They are known for killing any creature that defiles their tomb. If somehow pacified, they make monstrous, and deadly allies.
Swirl Eyes: Swirl eyed mummies are tricksters, and are more akin to jesters, or the sphinx in their methods. They are the most well documented in life, aside from Pharaohs and the like, due to being public entertainers. It has proved difficult to document them after they awake however.
Earth Elemental: Earth mummies have well documented temples, often detailing every dragon that had contributed to it's construction. Earth mummies themselves are very hardy and difficult to kill, possessing very thick skin, this could prove Inconvenient, if the need to kill one were to arise.
