of the Quarry

　
Many promising young light dragons longing to prove themselves do not return from the Hewn City.
And among the few that return, few are the same.

Distorted light, corrupted dragons.
To think this was once your sister, Caenis comes the hushed whisper. It wasn't met with a reply, just a faraway look. Caenis knew what must be done, knew there was no known cure and dragons had been agonizing over this as long as there was written Draconian. But when it should've been a dragon who fell, a cage did instead.
Caenis made her arrangements, chose the least populated region, yes, tuck her dear Demeter in some forgotten mine in Dragonhome. They'll never find her, they'll never find her. And maybe one day, with all of those Arcane dragons she surrounds herself with, one will have that final breakthrough and cure her spectretorn sister.

Caenis, however, made a second mistake. She checked up on her, perhaps her adoption of an orphan fae had her feeling sentimental. Cut to Agalia, powerhungry and smarmy, getting wind of it. Desperate to get any angle on the otherwise immovable Caenis, she made arrangements of her own and her party got led directly to Demeter.

And what a perfect weapon she was! How like an emperor she was! Full of bloodlust but not having to eat or sleep, how useful. A living spectretorn dragon and one Caenis knows about and protects, oh it was all too perfect for Agalia. It was leverage she wouldn't even dare to dream of, never was she that lucky. Relocating her was going to be tricky but she'll manage and she'll make sure Caenis doesn't visit again. She'll be sure to get some dragons long bribed into her schemes to casually ask where Caenis was, put her in an awkward position, know that dragons are watching, know that going back to Demeter would pose of risk of being found out.

As it now stands the gemstone mines in the Belfry's outskirts are known for their all-consuming darkness and cramped conditions that only Earth dragons dare enter. However, there is a larger chamber and within that chamber there is a source of light -- Demeter, the Agalia Foundation's best kept secret and Caenis's spectretorn older sister.
