Biography

R2M6DbT.png

No one enters her lair. It's hidden, nestled within the Rim, but everyone knows where it is.

From deep within, buzzing echoes back up to the surface. Many legs skittering, mandibles munching and communicating, all kinds of tones of buzzing and humming emerge. An entire ecosystem lives inside, ready to overtake and consume their next home to fill their endless, crowded population.

A glowing pair of ruby eyes swerve to look at you, too large to be any bug's. Then, hundreds - no, thousands, of bug eyes follow her. Every part of her cave is covered in insects, you realize, including the Auraboa herself. You can see the anticipation in their gaze - their hunger - waiting for you to come down and be devoured.

You see why no one enters now.

Hundreds of tiny chitin legs tap against stone walls. Inumerable green dots glow in the darkness above. The colony is hard at work, unaware of you... until the chorus of scuttling and buzzing disappears. A pair of red, spiraled eyes turn to face you.

The world stops. The Queen studies you, glowing eyes unmoving in the dark.

Then... she draws near, needing a better look at you. You can hear her scuttling and slithering all around you. Only part of her body is illuminated in the dim lighting. It rises and goes back down, allowing ample room for the hundreds of insects on the walls to crawl and fly.

Her head rotates to study you, spinning in circles yet staying level with yours. The spirals in her eyes turn endlessly; the world around you slithers and swirls. The beat of her legs echoes in every direction as everything spins...

You begin to lose balance, stumbling on your claws and almost crushing a bug--

"You," she states, stopping. "You look friendly." Her head comes to rest upside-down, and the rest of her body soon follows. An inquisitive talon rests on her chin, then a fanged smile creeps up her face. Are you.. safe?

"Come. Let's be friends!" She excitedly extends her wings, sending bugs flying everywhere. The tapping of legs begins again, the world starts to disorient, and tiny bites of pain spark all over your body. They crawl all over you, relentlessly digging through your skin despite your panicked attempts to get them off - a gesture that Clatterscale seems not to understand. She hugs you, dragging her new friend into the darkness...

Clatterscale
She/her
Queen of the Colony | "The Hive Queen," "Mother," by some

Lives: Rotrock Rim - (to be rewritten!) A tunnel system carved into the Rim's plant life. They have many caves and a confusing layout to all but Clatterscale and her colony. The lighting in the front is bright for visitors but grows dim as you go further in.

The caves store hoards of food, trinkets, and other things for the colony. A certain section of these caves and tunnels are for Clatterscale's personal use and have little-to-no bugs scurrying about.

(rewrite parts)

She still feels a connection to Nature - she wouldn't go, but she likes the plants in the Scarred Wasteland, so she burrowed amongst them. It also contributes to her love of bugs.

Affiliations: Plague, The Colony

Likes: Bugs; eating, but big feasts even more; friendship; her glowing spots and eyes; her many arms and legs; fitting herself into tunnels or small spaces; art; drawing

She loves the intricacies and differences in each bug she has. She can't see all of them, of course, but she knows how to differentiate them well. She's also an amateur artist, using her bug legs to hold her materials as she draws or paints.

Dislikes: Bright lights; a lack of food; losing friends; if it's too quiet

Bright lights disorient her. She'll usually make a threat display if one suddenly appears. These include swaying like a snake, tapping her legs to disorient her opponent, hissing, and spreading her wings and many legs out to look bigger. She can even do all of them at once!

Seiren
Distant Friends

It's not often they meet, but Clatter and Seiren bond over their many similarities and "friends." Clatterscale sometimes sends messenger-bug hordes for Seiran, containing letters, gifts, and artwork. Seiren sends their own works back - they take longer to deliver due to how carefully they're transported, being crafts instead of paintings.

Extra:

horror niche: bugs! lots of skittering things!

lore ideas:
-can climb on walls, ceilings, etc. she gets her spiral eyes from her swirly crawling
-hypnotic pattern to her legs' tapping to disorient foes. youll end up going in circles just like her! (also contributes to the eyes lol)
-she can also scuttle across walls, ceilings, etc while keeping her head level.
-her scuttling sounds like multiple creatures scuttling towards you. contributes to the bug fear (ie multiple bugs just running at you)
--has threat displays like bugs do! could also be hypnotic like her scuttle...
-friends with seiren <3
