unrequited love + terrible nightmares! basically the plot of the song - in the end, cardania becomes the wishgranter (unsure how lol) because her wish remains unrequited. the eldritch horror shes with/she serves?/etc etc is the one who grants nightmares and wishes, with cardania as the catalyst/translator and transmitter of power/etc. <- cardania still has power though - the power like dynamic here is up in the air; cardania could be granted the power to grant wishes instead of the eldritch being, etc
her connection these beings is giving her more and more unnatural features, though her bloodstone roundhorns are naturally grown, hence it's color.

i held the letter in my shaking hands the ones you touched when you ran past me on the way to class "we're late" you said "come run with me" but crumpled up and thrown away i tore apart my heart today just ripped to shreds, you saw me then "its late" you said "come walk with me" moonlight falls upon my windowsill i watch the world go by in time can you save me from my dreams? from whispers of the stars aligned it rises up and breaks the tide to prophecies and valentines to waking up in the end times my god its crushing me tangled round my body like countless chains black seas split by twisted spires holding my eyes open, i'm so tired all my nightmares they never change but i'll think of you tonight i snap awake, another day another sleepless night to face alone without you by my side why cant you just why cant you just be mine |

Cardania - somewhat obviously - has not always been this way. Once, she was a darling of a Coatl, lovely and uncorrupted. She spent her days alongside dragons of all kinds in a clan that was friendly to all, living in a once-Pearlcatcher's home. With half a life by the sea and half next to her friends, there truly was nothing to worry or stress of.
Eventually, as some may say every dragon does, she fell in love. Another Coatl in the clan had caught her interest - and luckily enough, they were already friends! Between the days spent in the fields, among the ruins, and by the sea, endlessly hoping for him to confess first...
...were nights spent in utter horror.
Nightmares. An endless stream of visions and horrible, incomprehensible sights laid before her. Whether she scribbled them down, trying to connect the dots with shaky claws, or spent the night tossing and turning relentlessly, there was no reprieve... but every night, she imagined her love to bear her through.
The love she would most surely confess to! Here and now! These dreams, these visions - they're a push from the greater ones above to secure my love... Surely, perhaps this is wicked work of the Shadowbinder... to finally make me say it.
And then this all will end...
It looked promising. Her nightmares had waned ever since she began writing. She prepared the final letter, eloquent and charmingly penned. Place the stamp in rose-red... the final touches of decor... and that is it. Her letter... of love. She looked out the window to calm her racing heart, holding the letter in her shaking claws. Ah, there he is! she thought with a smile, until she realized something:
Who's she? Laying a hand on his cheek was another dragon, the two staring into eachother's eyes... so lovingly..! And then... No, NO, this CANNOT BE!
She dropped the letter, staring in wide-eyed shock, as a chill overcame her bedroom's entirety. Cardania realized, with a shattering heart, that it was a lie. Their friendship, those lovestruck evenings and nights spent daydreaming... were all... mere, hopeless daydreams.
That night, the nightmares returned in full force. Through the next, the next, and the next, she spent the nights grappling with the loss, sent to madness by the forces above...
...until one night. Maddened and stuck in a pool of grief, Cardania did not sleep for a moment that night.
And yet she dreamed.
