Hatarei Maeona

"Kaao... will you stay with me?"




Hatarei is one of many inmates in Kyras' prison. He was placed in the special containment building because he ended up going crazy a week before the uprising. After the uprising, Kyras invited Hatarei to stay with him for a while. Hatarei often has trouble sleeping, since his vivid dreams tend to scare him awake.



He has an odd health condition which greatly weakened his chest while he was imprisoned. A single punch to the chest is enough to make his heart stop. The other inmates are very understanding and willing to help him whenever he needs it. He also has a bad leg, which prevents him from running or moving heavy things. Hatarei tends to stay in his new cell, who he shares with Kaao.



He likes to crochet in his spare time. Every month when Shade brings the inmates the food delivery, he also brings Hatarei a large bag of yarn. Hatarei has made lots of colorful sweaters and socks. He gives them as gifts on other inmates' birthdays. He also kept a diary, which he wrote in every day. Kaao once asked him about it, and Hatarei replied with "Sweetheart, wait 'till I die. Then you can look."



About four years after the uprising, Hatarei steps in between a fight (Kaao and another inmate). He tries to stop it, but the other guy is quick to attack him. He takes a hit to the chest, which kills Hatarei immediately. Kaao then beats the other guy to death and tries to revive Hatarei, but fails. Hatarei is buried by a large oak tree, and the second guy is buried across the courtyard. Kaao teaches himself how to crochet so that he can continue Hatarei's birthday tradition. He also finds a stash of things that Hatarei had made for Kaao, including multiple love letters.
