After the uprising, Kaao finally had someone to share his cell with. He had a man named Hatarei placed with him, and the two quickly became friends. He helped Hatarei learn how to take care of himself. The two fall in love and eventually start dating.

Kaao is active and loves to run. He participates in multiple sports. When he isn't outside, he's in his cell with Hatarei. He watches Hatarei crochet, usually leaning against his shoulder. The two share a bed, but Kaao moves a lot in his sleep. It can end in many ways:
1. Kaao is somehow on top of Hatarei
2. Hatarei is pushed off the bed
3. Kaao rolls off the bed
4. Both end up on the floor

After Hatarei's death, Kaao struggled with loneliness. For 4 years, the pair had lived together and were rarely apart. He visits Hatarei's grave every week and talks to it. He learns how to crochet to continue Hatarei's birthday tradition, in which he'd give someone a handmade sweater + pair of socks for their birthday. Kaao keeps Hatarei's old things safely stashed away in a glitter-covered box under the bed.
