Aislinn
The Cursebearer
In hushed corners of the Tangled Woods, the dragons of the dark tell their young to be wary. For there are many creatures that lurk in the shadows. But of all the things they should be wary of, it is not the darkness, but the light that should not be there.
They say that in the deepest depths of the woods, wanderers will sometimes see an eerie green glow, just off in the distance. But under no circumstances should you ever follow it. They say, that it is the soul of the lamplighter, a dragon who lost their lives long long ago. His lamplight beckons the souls of the living, drawing the curious and the lost. But those foolish enough to follow his light become lost forever. By the time you see his lantern, it will be too late.
They say the lamplighter was once a dragon ostracized and chased away by his own kind. Unable to wield magic, he was ridiculed and cast away. Forlorn and abandoned, this anguished soul wandered the woods with naught but the light of his lamp. And when he finally perished, he uttered a curse to all dragonkind.
That all who sees his lantern will die by his curse.
That all who yearns for his light will be forever lost in the darkness.
Never to know the light of day again.
Cursed to wander for eternity.
For if he were to be fated for the depths of hell...
Then he would drag every last soul down with him.
The first time Aislinn heard the tale of the Lamplighter, she couldn't help rolling her eyes.
Such tales were no strangers to Aislinn. Stories of curses and troubled spirits were a dime a dozen in the Tangled Woods. For Aislinn who makes a living exorcising real curses, these stories were just more jobs to her, and the thrill of the tale no longer excited her. In truth, many of these stories were just straight up false, or mixed with half truths and embellished a thousand times. Weaving such stories was the favourite pasttime of the Shadowweaver after all, and these stories made their rounds all the time in her Woods. It was rarely the case that a curse story like this was legitimate.
But for Lady Ashmane and her latest adventuring crew, it was this tale that captured their imaginations, and inspired their latest adventure. After being regaled the tale by the former members of the Curse-Seeker, Ashmane immediately set off into the Tangled Woods alongside Rhana and Ravoon to meet this Lamplighter. It was during their information gathering when they met Aislinn, who was a little bit concerned by their apparent lack of any caution at all. If that story was even 5% true, they would need help. She knew she couldn't just leave them alone.
And so she set out with the crew to find out the truth behind the legend of the Lamplighter.
Bio
Aislinn is a somewhat bitter and jaded nocturne, having lived a life of seeing the worst out of dragons. Whether it is the broken spirit of a once birght-eyed dreamer, or the haunted regrets of an unloved maiden, or the victim of an abusive relationship, Aislinn has seen the results for herself. It is a life of witnessing a thousand tragedies, and all she can do is mourn the fallen and let them rest. The only solace she gets is some coin from those bothered by a haunted spirit, who only care about chasing them away and never the why. And that's only if she was lucky enough to run into a real spirit. Half the time, it was just a scam or made up or someone pretending to be a spirit. Or in the rare case, it was half real, but it was a an alive dragon being held captive or being abused or something. It's no wonder she grew to be so cynical.
This all changed when she met Scathallach, whose bright optimism and endless curiosity brought a light into her world.
